Data quality makes or breaks trust in your insights. Don't spend hours on your analysis only to have your stakeholders ask "why doesn't this match Amazon UI?"
How do you build trust in your Amazon reporting & insights? It's not complicated -- just a lot of work. Here's what we do at Reason Automation. --- ? 1. SET EXPECTATIONS --- Help your stakeholders understand how Amazon's data works and where to expect discrepancies. For example, Amazon's DAILY and WEEKLY vendor retail analytics data do not match; if you add up seven DAILY data pulls and compare them to the WEEKLY, the values will not match exactly. Have your Amazon experts equip the team with these nuances so they can appropriately set expectations. --- ? 2. SHOW YOUR WORK --- Observability builds trust because it helps people understand where your data comes from, how you transformed and augmented it, and explain it to their own stakeholders. Document your sources, processes, and transformations somewhere close by. We provide metadata showing when we added each row, when we last updated it because of an Amazon change, and how many times we've revised it. --- ? 3. PROACTIVE RESTATEMENT --- Anyone who has worked with Amazon sales + advertising data knows that the historical data changes over time. Whether it's a 14-day attribution window, customer return window, or invalid traffic clean-up, Amazon data is prone to change. Don't just set expectations with your report viewers, get ahead of inevitable discrepancies by proactively restating data. At a minimum, grab fresh data from Amazon and your analytics partners as close as possible to the presentation or meeting. --- ? 4. REACT QUICKLY --- Even with daily restatement, some data discrepancies will slip by, e.g. Amazon incorrectly adding or removing products from your brand code causing Manufacturing data errors. (One of our clients gets data for a Ring doorbell ASIN.) You can do everything possible to minimize occurrences but when they happen, reacting quickly helps restore trust. We accomplish this by backfilling (replacing) with fresh data when necessary. --- ? 5. WORK WITH AMAZON --- Amazon wants you to have accurate data; it spins the flywheel. If you notice a problem with your data, open a case with Amazon through Vendor/Seller Central and follow up methodically. Don't assume the support team understands your business context, explain it in advance and provide examples (downloads, API calls, etc.). If there is a business impact to this inaccuracy, calmly explain the stakes. By working directly with Amazon, we helped identify a systemic accuracy issue with Prime Try Before You Buy affecting our apparel customers. #amazondata #amazonvendor #amazonseller #amazonfba
