What really struck me about my podcast episode with Damian Eales, CEO of Realtor.com, was the focus on focus. With tremendous industry challenges, a down market, and very strong competitors, there wasn't really a choice -- the company had to FOCUS. From "a lack of revenue exposes every problem" to "realtor.com, I love you but you're bringing me down," the strategy was all about doing a small number of things well. The example of partnering with arch-competitor Zillow on rentals is a great example. Realtor.com was up against two formidable competitors, Zillow and Apartments.com. Was it really going to win? Focus, focus, focus.
