We’re honored to be featured in Andrew Ng latest edition of The Batch newsletter discussing the evolution of voice technology! Andrew highlights our collaboration with DeepLearning.AI in the development of his RealAvatar, and the? challenges that voice applications pose. While building voice interactions, we discovered that the pipeline of STT → LLM/Agentic workflow → TTS provides more control and accuracy than direct audio generation - but introduces latency issues that users immediately notice. A "pre-response" technique quickly acknowledges user queries while our agentic workflow prepares a thoughtful answer. With the? help of LiveKit, we've reduced response times from 5-9 seconds down to just 0.5-1 seconds - approaching natural human conversation speed! Andrew mentions that after a year of refinement, our voice system continues to evolve.
