?? Exciting news! REST has been selected to compete in Matthew Chapman’s 5th Annual $10,000 Giveaway! ?? Winning this giveaway will help us support more survivors and amplify their voices—but we need your help to make it happen. We’re dedicated to placing survivors at the forefront of the effort to end sex trafficking by launching a Survivor Advisory Board. This initiative will empower survivors to lead critical decisions that shape resources and strategies nationwide, ensuring their voices guide the path to lasting change. With your support, we can provide essential training in public speaking, policy advocacy, legislation, and leadership—equipping survivors to become bold advocates and transformative changemakers across the U.S. This isn’t just an investment in skills; it’s a powerful step toward justice. By amplifying the voices of those with lived experience, we’re fueling a movement to end trafficking, inspire hope, and drive lasting impact. Together, we can turn survivors into leaders—and leaders into changemakers. ??? Voting is open now until November 26 at 9:00 PM. It only takes 30 seconds to vote, and every vote counts! Vote here: https://lnkd.in/gWVVuV7y Thank you for your support! ?? Please share this post and encourage your friends and family to vote, too. 关于我们
Human trafficking is modern-day slavery and the fastest-growing criminal industry in the world. It is the recruitment of people by means of threat, force, coercion or deception for the purpose of exploitation. Trafficking for prostitution is one of the most profitable forms of trafficking. What you may not know is that this type of trafficking is not just something that takes place in 3rd world nations, but also happens to US citizens residing within U.S. borders. The Department of Justice estimates that more than 250,000 American children are at risk for trafficking into the industry annually and the average age of girls who enter into street prostitution is between 12 and 14 years old. Traffickers target vulnerable young girls, such as runaway, homeless, and foster care children. Incest and other forms of abuse often drive children to run away from home, making them vulnerable to the cunning tactics of traffickers. In fact, 1 in 3 runaways are recruited by a pimp with in 48 hours of leaving home. Real Escape from the Sex Trade (REST) was founded in 2009 to build pathways of freedom, safety and hope for for victims of sex trafficking and people involved in the sex trade in Seattle and beyond.
