Empowering foster youth and first-generation college students to graduate college and launch successful careers

关于我们

In January 2016, two non-profit veterans, Romi Lassally and Patrick McCabe, saw the opportunity to transform outcomes with targeted support—to take the foster youth that were motivated, ambitious, and tenacious enough to make it to college and ensure they had the resources, relationships, and opportunities they needed to succeed there and in all facets of life. Romi and Pat believed that if every college student impacted by foster care had the kind of support they needed, when they needed it, they could be successful and have a shot at pursuing a future brighter than their past. Initially leveraging their own personal and professional networks, they began to close the opportunity and network gap their students faced. Encouraging others to start opening their own networks as well, the RTS network began to grow exponentially, creating a deep bench of caring and connected professionals across all industries and at every level of the career ladder. In January 2022, RTS expanded to include low-income first-generation college students. Along with students impacted by foster care, these first-gen Scholars have unique access to a diverse group of thought leaders, innovators, and passionate professionals who offer advice, opportunities, and a community of support. Today, our mission is to inspire college students in underserved communities to unlock their potential by providing them with the coaching, connections, and community they need to launch their careers and thrive.

Global Media & Partnerships Intern, AEG | Academy Gold Rising | EBF Fellow | HRTS Fellow

I’m happy to share with my fans that I’ve accepted an offer at AEG Presents! I’ll be supporting the media team as the Global Media & Partnerships Intern. A huge thank you to Ready To Succeed and Camp Flog Gnaw Community Day for introducing me to this incredible company, which organizes so many live events I’ve been attending since I was a little girl. My single dad is a musician, and his influence led me to discover a love for songs that have impacted generations. I also developed a passion for connecting fans and fostering the experience that links one show to another. In fact, I’ve even made lifelong friends at shows. If you know me, you know I spend most of my free time at live events, especially music festivals and concerts. So, this role is truly a no-brainer. In fact, it screams TAMAR!!! As someone who’s lived in survival mode my entire life, my new motto is to not take life too seriously and to enjoy the fun that comes with simply living. Being able to accept a role that encourages that and brings live events to fans around the world means so much to me. From one fan to another, let the good times roll!

We are so excited to welcome Julia Reitsma as our Philanthropy & Grants Manager! She has added such joy to our team already! Julia earned her B.A. in Psychology from UCLA, where she was deeply involved in supporting the foster youth community through her participation in the Bruin Guardian Scholars program. At UCLA, Julia was a member of the Triathlon Team, a research assistant in multiple psychology labs, and served as a GRIT Peer Coach, helping former foster youth navigate challenges by teaching coping strategies and stress management techniques. Following her time at UCLA, Julia transitioned into the field of Real Estate Private Lending, working as an Account Executive. In this role, she provided financing solutions for real estate investors pursuing development and rental projects, honing her skills in client management and strategic problem-solving. As a former foster youth, Julia combines her personal experiences with her professional expertise to advocate for causes she deeply values. She has even used her passion for triathlon racing as a platform to fundraise for organizations supporting foster youth. Inspired by this work, Julia joined our team as Philanthropy and Grants Manager. In her current role, she identifies grant opportunities, ensures timely submissions, and helps steward relationships with our investors. Julia is passionate about building a future where every former foster youth has access to the support and community they deserve, and she’s committed to advancing this vision through her work at JIT. Outside of work, Julia enjoys playing beach volleyball, salsa dancing, attending comedy shows, and exploring the great outdoors. An avid solo backpacker, she loves discovering new cultures and finding adventure wherever she goes.

Starting college should be an exciting time. However, the absence of family, dorm essentials and move-in support can make the experience daunting and difficult. Many foster youth face unmet needs, limiting their ability to focus on their studies and career goals. This is where RTS comes in! Thanks to the incredible support of our dedicated volunteers and generous partners at John Paul Mitchell Systems, Canyon Partners, LLC, 3 Arts Entertainment, Hot Topic, PERIOD., Supergoop!, Dr. Bronner's, the Chuck Lorre Family Foundation and Banchik Family Foundation, our community recently transformed this experience for 320 students in need! On behalf of the entire Ready to Succeed team, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for making Project Dorm Room?a?reality. We did it! Had the honor of volunteering for Ready To Succeed’s “Camp Ready”, where I was able to network with scholars at various steps within their careers, talk about my transition from retail to healthcare and provide words of encouragement. I have so much professional growth to experience but I hope that sharing my story and the struggles I’ve encountered will help others reach their goals also. Thank you, Michele Prince, LCSW, MAJCS, for informing me of this opportunity.

Changing Futures through Real-World Experience: 2024 McCabe Impact Fellowship Celebration. Yesterday marked the culmination of another successful year of the McCabe Impact Fellowship at Ready to Succeed, where scholars gained hands-on experience through paid internships at local nonprofits and social impact organizations across Southern California. As always, the highlight of the program is the final presentation. Scholars come together and showcase the projects they worked on throughout the summer. This year, they collaborated to shine a light on critical areas in need of social impact, sharing insights and innovative solutions to a panel of judges and the rest of RTS Community. These presentations are more than just a summary of their work—they are a testament to the lasting impact your support has on the lives of these scholars. A huge shoutout to some of our partners in attendance yesterday: AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles CASA of Los Angeles Group Effort Initiative Hollywood CPR LA-Tech.org National Center for Youth Law Stepping Forward LA WIN Young Storytellers And a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. The energy at Camp Ready this weekend was truly top tier! Volunteer professionals, industry leaders in their own right, didn't just share career-building tips—they offered open and honest insights directly to the new Ready to Succeed Scholars. A common challenge everyone faces is the feeling of "not being enough." Eddie Valcin, RTS Board member and panelist, captured it well: "When you start to look around and feel like you don't belong, or that others are more qualified, remind yourself that you are still in the room." The superpower highlighted by many panelists is their unique contributions. They bring something to the table that no one else has—just as each Ready to Succeed Scholar will. Thank you to everyone who contributed their presence and insights, making the event unforgettable. Shannon de Laat Jean Batthany Gloria S Garcia Cisneros, CFP? Hoai Scott Karen Jones

I have been supporting Ready To Succeed for almost six years now. The nonprofit exists to support low-income first generation college and students and those impacted by foster care. Through RTS, these first-gen Scholars have unique access to a diverse group of thought leaders, innovators and passionate professionals who offer advice, opportunities and a community of support. On Saturday, it was my pleasure to sit amongst a panel of powerhouse thought leaders to discuss how these young scholars can use the power of storytelling in their communication - be it interviewing for a job, or when networking in general. Authenticity rose to the top. Being true to yourself, who you are, your values and not being afraid to ask for help. Such an inspiring afternoon. Thank you to my Ready To Succeed family for having me. ?
