???? In honor of National Injury Prevention Day this week, some of our leaders visited the Child Development Center to share an important safety message with the kids! Emergency Department team member Marion Zavala, along with Dr. Barbera and Dr. Coots, read the book "Don't Lick the Dog: Making Friends with Dogs" by Wendy Wahman. ???? This fun and engaging story taught kids how to safely interact with dogs, making new furry friends while staying safe. A big thank you to our readers for taking the time to teach these valuable tips! ???? #InjuryPrevention #NationalInjuryPreventionDay

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of David Thun, a cherished member of the Reading Hospital family and the Berks County community. An industrialist by trade and philanthropist at heart, David served as a volunteer and board member for many organizations, including Reading Hospital and Reading Hospital Foundation, always championing our hospital’s mission. The Thun family’s deep connection to Reading Hospital began with David’s grandfather, Ferdinand Thun, one of the visionaries behind our hospital’s founding. The Thun-Janssen Auditorium stands as a tribute to their legacy. Our heartfelt condolences go to his wife, Barbara, and the entire Thun family. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.

Some of our incredible Street Medicine team members—Dr. Anthony Donato, Yomari Salvador-Rivera, and Christine Nepple—recently laced up for the Hope Rescue Mission 5K while wearing their 40-pound backpacks, just like they do when caring for the unsheltered community. ???? Together, they raised funds for Hope Rescue Mission’s veteran services to provide tents, sleeping bags, and medicine for those in need. ??: https://bit.ly/3OeBpWN

Congratulations to Mike Sheidy, PCA I, CV Non-Invasive, recent recipient of the Mountain Laurel Award! Check out Mike’s heartfelt nomination from a colleague ??: “My name is Deana, and I am a sonographer in Maternal Fetal Medicine. I wanted to let you know about a great employee in Interventional Radiology, Mike Sheidy. I am writing to you not as his colleague, but as a daughter of a patient. He was a tremendous comfort to my mom during her pancreatic cancer journey. For a few months she came in weekly for a paracentesis. He always engaged in conversation and listened while she bragged about her grandchildren! He made her feel like a normal person and not like a cancer patient. Of all the healthcare providers she encountered during her 25-month battle, he was the only one she talked about with a smile. Unfortunately, she passed away in October. I promised her I would let him know how much she appreciated his kindness. I’m sure he is a bright light to many on their darkest days."
