We're back with a new episode. Read The Bull host Stefan Prelog talked to Zeke Faux about his critically acclaimed book "Number Go Up" by Crown Publishing. The book is a wild ride that follows Zeke's multi-year investigation into Cryptocurrency. He focuses on the popular stable-coin Tether and attempts to find its founders. The investigation sets Zeke on a whirlwind adventure to the Bahamas, Switzerland, El Salvador, Cambodia, Vietnam, Miami, and the Philippines, where he meets and interacts with Crypto's world of oddball characters - scammers, pig butchering victims, zealots, an actor from the Mighty Ducks and the creator of Inspector Gadget. Zeke sets out with the goal of trying to find practical real-world applications of Crypto. Zeke's a Bloomberg investigative reporter and admittedly cynical about Crypto's usefulness, and he tells Stefan that after spending all this time looking into the industry, including spending $20,000 of his own money on a mutant ape NFT, he's even more convinced that there's no mainstream use for Crypto. Whether you're a Crypto novice, skeptic, supporter or expert, you'll learn something from Zeke's deep and insightful look at the industry. Check out the full interview at ReadTheBull.com

Our latest episode of Read The Bull is live. Patricia Chadwick joins host Stefan Prelog to discuss her new book, "Breaking Glass, Tales from the Witch of Wall Street." Patricia enjoyed a 30-year career in finance and held roles as a research analyst, portfolio manager, director of research, and investment strategist for places like Citicorp, the Ford Foundation and Invesco. Patricia explains that there was she kept a long-held secret from her colleagues that only came to light when she published her memoir, "Little Sister" in 2019. Patricia was forced to survive on her own, when at age 17 she was abruptly dismissed from the religious community that her and her family belonged to since she was six years old. The community had turned into a cult over time, and Patricia never revealed anything about her upbringing in the community until she shared her book with her colleagues and friends. She discusses how she navigated this strange, new world and built an impressive career after being cast out of the cult. Finding her way in the late 1960s, at a tumultuous time in our country, was challenging in its own right, but Patricia had the added challenge of being thrust out in a world that was strange and unfamiliar. Patricia's finance career began in the early 1970s at a time where the majority of women in finance held administrative roles, but she was equipped with a stellar education thanks to her teacher and first mentor, Sister Ann Mary Cobb as well as the unlikely role model, Sister Catherine. She explains how she navigated the world in those early days and eventually landed a secretarial position at Ladenburg Thalmann. She talks to Read The Bull host Stefan Prelog about those early days and details how she continued to gain experience and advance her investment management career, ultimately working her way up to a portfolio manager overseeing $6 billion dollars of client assets, including many of the largest and most well-known corporate pension funds, endowments, and foundations. She credits much of her success to a handful of mentors, and dedicated the book to those individuals, including George Burden, Sherif Nada, Jay Light and Peter Vermilye. She discusses the ups and downs of her career and provides her perspective on the 1982 bull market, 1987 crash and other moments she witnessed first-hand. She also explains how she earned the nickname "The Witch of Wall Street," a moniker she was unaware of until her 70th birthday party. Stefan and Patricia end the interview discussing what women starting out in finance can learn from her experience. Books detailing women's careers in finance and investing are rare, but more women are writing books about their journey. "Breaking Glass" is a worthy addition to the burgeoning genre. You don't want to miss this fascinating conversation. Go to ReadTheBull.com for the full interview. #book #finance #investing

Our latest episode is live! We welcome Rob Copeland for the 12th episode of Read The Bull. Host Stefan Prelog interviewed Copeland about his best-selling book, "The Fund: Ray Dalio, Bridgewater Associates, and the Unraveling of a Wall Street Legend" in front of a live audience at the historic?Troutbeck Inn?located in bucolic Amenia, NY. Copeland's a finance reporter for New York Times who has covered Ray Dalio and the hedge fund, Bridgewater Associates for more than a decade and became interested in writing a book after he noticed Dalio got famous for his principles and turned himself into a self-help guru. As Dalio became more famous, he painted a picture of himself that was completely different than the one Copeland knew through his reporting. Copeland explains in the interview that Dalio's own portrait was presented in the publication of Dalio's 2017 own book, "Principles: Life & Work." The book was a cumbersome 600 pages that was part memoir and part self-help guide filled with rules aimed to help you be successful at work and in life. The book relies on Dalio's management philosophy and principles which he cultivated from his decades of success. Copeland notes, however, that Dalio was searching for a higher meaning beyond the pursuit of money and the principles were a retro-fit to describe his success. Dalio's transformation is impressive, but according to Copeland the reality is far different from what Dalio and Bridgewater present. The cornerstone of Dalio's philosophy is 'radical transparency,' an approach Dalio claims has helped Bridgewater's employees with their own personal and professional growth. Copeland through his intrepid reporting tells a more complete story about Dalio's rise in the world of investing. Copeland also dissects the inner workings of Bridgewater, detailing an intricate rating system that allows employees to rate each other in real time. The system, however, is rigged as Dalio decides he will be the baseline making himself immune to negative feedback. Bridgewater's corporate culture is a focus for Copeland and we discuss the internal trials that feel like modern-day gladiator matches. How did Dalio really build his business, was Bridgewater a cult, was the fund really just a Ponzi scheme? The truth is always complicated, and you'll need to listen to the interview and decide for yourself who the real Ray Dalio is. You don't want to miss this fascinating conversation.
