To celebrate 25 years of READ and to highlight our work in New York City we presented five teachers, one from each borough, with Read Alliance's Lifting Up Literacy Award at our Gala Kick Off event on March 3rd. "Witnessing firsthand the transformation in [the students’] reading skills and confidence levels has been truly inspiring. The READ program at PS 151K partnered with Brooklyn Nets, BSE Global, and Qatar Airways on March 12th for an exciting event that engaged both our striving READers and Teen Leaders. The event featured a read-aloud session with Nets Legend Albert King, who inspired the READers with the message, “Whatever you want to do, whatever you want to become after you finish school, you will do it!” In addition, Teen Leaders heard from a panel of professionals who provided valuable insights about career paths and leadership. A big thank you to the Brooklyn Nets, BSE Global, and Qatar Airways for making this such a special afternoon!

At Monday’s VIP Gala Kick Off Reception, Read Alliance celebrated 5 stellar teachers who are part of READ’s storied success. Dedicated educators, empowered teen leaders, determined young READers, committed parents and family members, mission-aligned supporters, visionary board members, and a staff that leads with heart are the main characters of this organization’s story. A model that is grounded in the science of reading and a belief in kids drives the plot towards a happily ever after where every kid becomes a confident reader and every teen steps up as a leader.
