Engage, empower, and celebrate LGBTQIA+ people of color and their communities. We do this through our four pillars.

关于我们

In 1992, three women artists and one community organizer founded REACH LA in response to the lack of HIV/AIDS prevention education for youth of color. They worked with teenage youth to develop educational programming that was targeted to combat the rise in HIV infection rates. Our current approach includes HIV prevention education, HIV testing, linkage to care and support services for HIV positive and high-risk negative youth and young adults. We have since cultivated our legacy into a multifaceted approach that includes HIV prevention education, HIV testing, linkage to care and support services for HIV positive & high-risk negative youth and young adults. REACH LA has built a safe and supportive environment that strives to educate, motivate and mobilize youth around sexual/reproductive health, culture and self-preservation. “We’ve come this far, we’ve got a story to tell!” (Melody Taproot Consultant)

March 20th: National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day First observed in 2007, this day acknowledges the invaluable contribution of Native communities in ending the HIV epidemic, underscoring the significance of Native visibility in national HIV strategies and funding opportunities. The observance is a national mobilization effort designed to encourage American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians across the United States and Territorial Areas to become educated, get tested, engage in prevention, and seek treatment for HIV. #STOPHIVTOGETHER

March 10th: National Women & Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is dedicated to raising awareness about the impact of HIV on women and girls. First observed in 2005, NWGHAAD highlights ongoing efforts to improve HIV prevention, treatment, and care services among women and girls. Despite tremendous advances in HIV research over the last 40 years, women—particularly women of color and young women—remain disproportionately affected by HIV. Additional research is critical to understanding the best ways to prevent, treat, and cure HIV across women’s lifespans. It is also essential that HIV research prioritizes diverse populations to ensure all women receive access to HIV services that will work for their needs and preferences. #STOPHIVTOGETHER

National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD) This day highlights the progress and ongoing challenges in HIV testing, prevention, and treatment in Black communities. This year we want to emphasize the need to address racism, homophobia, poverty, stigma, and other factors driving health disparities. While new HIV infections among Black people decreased by 14% from 2017 to 2021, Black people still accounted for 40% of new infections in 2021, with Black gay and bisexual men and Black women being the most affected. Structural barriers do continue to hinder HIV prevention and care in these communities. Nevertheless, all of us can work to address stigma and racism within our institutions and communities. Looking for ways to ensure that Black people have access to HIV testing and prevention services, as well as compassionate, patient-centered, stigma-free HIV care. #STOPHIVTOGETHER
