Developing high impact technologies in the areas of industrial decarbonization, high efficiency power generation, heat activated cooling systems, thermal management systems for laser diodes/data centers, and carbon capture. We are group of researchers at Colorado State University's Powerhouse Energy Campus, where we are able to simulate, fabricate, and experimentally test large scale energy systems.

I had a great experience last week at #GHGT-17 presenting our poster on Thermal Energy Storage for Carbon Capture. I learned so much from all the leading CCS innovators assembled for the conference. Last week, two of our team members Joseph Huyett and Madeleine Siegel had a fantastic trip to Nevada to learn about geothermal systems! Big thanks to Ormat Technologies, Inc. for showing us around their Steamboat Geothermal Complex.
Two of our students Lars Mitchel and Madeleine Siegel presented at the 10th Thermal Fluids and Engineering Conference last week! Maddy's work assessed the economic and environmental performance of high temperature heat pumps for producing industrial steam. Lars presented a high efficiency air delivery system for our fuel cell power generation prototype system. Great job and congratulations to both!

This week we received HUGE news! We were one of 49 projects awarded a grant by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office (IEDO) to help decarbonize America’s industrial sector and revitalize domestic manufacturing as part of the Biden Administration’s Investing in America program!? ? We were awarded a $3.2M grant to use our technology to reduce industrial greenhouse gas emissions and bring us closer to reaching a net-zero economy. Our project was selected for its high-impact RD&D and demonstration of flexibility within the industrial sector with a heat pump that extends its low and high temperature operating range. We are grateful for this opportunity to showcase our technology, collaborate with new partners, and solidify our position as a scalable, low-cost approach to decarbonizing the industrial sector.? ? Our team working on the Hybrid SOFC-IC Engine technology was awarded follow-on funding from the DOE Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office (IEDO) under the low-carbon fuels utilization R&D program. This three-year project is a collaborative effort between Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State University, and Kohler Power Systems that continues work from the INTEGRATE program where the SOFC-IC system will run on fuel blends (100% NG to 100% Hydrogen) to generate 100 kW of electricity and 30 kW of steam. The technology will achieve > 85% CO2 emission reduction compared to conventional distributed generation systems.
