Today is National Recycling Day! ?? Let's take a moment to appreciate the power of recycling, and the different forms it can take. 1?? Upcycling is the process of transforming discarded materials into something of equal or greater value. It's all about creativity and innovation. Think converting old ladders into bookshelves, or turning wine bottles into decorative lamps. 2?? Downcycling is when waste materials are converted into new materials of lesser quality. For example, when plastic bottles are recycled into park benches or picnic tables. 3?? Repurposing is simply finding a new use for an item without changing its form. A classic example is using an old tin can as a pencil holder. On this National #Recycling Day, we are committed to doing our part in reducing waste, whether it's through upcycling, downcycling or repurposing.

The panelists shared insightful experiences about how their roles have transformed over time, their methods of engaging with stakeholders, and the resources they require.? ? Key takeaways from the session include: ? The Value of Sustainability:?The panel emphasized that sustainability should not be viewed solely as a cost center. Instead, it's crucial to evaluate both the risks and opportunities that sustainability presents, thereby articulating its value more effectively. ? Sustainability Integration:?Sustainability should be embedded into all core business functions, rather than existing as a separate entity. This integration is key to achieving successful outcomes and maximizing financial?returns. ? Evolving Role of the CSO:?The role of the CSO has often been?undefined?and has expanded over time. Today, CSOs typically fulfill multiple functions that were historically performed within other departments such as finance, compliance, and human resources. ? Influence and Trust:?To build and maintain internal buy-in, CSOs need to be skilled at influencing without authority and fostering trust among team members. ? Top-Level Support:?For a CSO to be successful, backing?from those at the?highest level of the organization is essential. ?
