?? Turning Waste into Soil Food with Chapul Farms! ?? As part of our USDA-funded ‘Circular Solutions for Resilient Farms’ Initiative, we’re using an incredible technology developed by our partner Chapul Farms - containerized insect farming. This innovative, closed-loop solution helps farms transform organic waste into insect frass, a powerful, nutrient-rich soil amendment. ?? How It Works: ?? Waste In, Soil Food Out: Food and farm waste are fed to Black Soldier Fly larvae inside shipping containers. ?? Larvae Work Their Magic: In 7–10 days, the larvae convert waste into two valuable outputs: nutrient-rich frass and protein-packed larvae. ?? Simple & Efficient: These compact systems use minimal space, water, and energy—reducing GHG emissions by up to 90%! ?? Healthy Soil, Sustainable Farms: Frass boosts soil health, reduces reliance on chemical fertilizers, and closes the waste loop. This isn’t just a waste solution—it’s a step toward a more sustainable future for agriculture. As many of you know, we were awarded a coveted USDA grant from the Partnership for Climate-Smart Commodities last year to help small and specialty crop farmers improve their soil, draw down carbon, and enhance the quality of their crops. We’re thrilled to see our circular agriculture solution in a compelling and in-depth BBC article, highlighting our project partner, Chapul Farms. The BBC article explores the potential of containerized insect farming technology to transform American agriculture—turning food waste into high-quality animal feed while simultaneously restoring soil health. While the future of USDA grant funding remains uncertain, we hope the new administration recognizes the immense value projects like ours, and many other companies under the USDA. It brings to U.S. farmers and farmlands the critical role of innovative technologies like ours in building a resilient and sustainable food system. ??At Re-Nuble, we believe circularity is the key to building a resilient food system. We’re thrilled to announce a $4.6M USDA grant to launch the ?‘Circular Solutions for Resilient Farms’ Initiative, to implement smart, circular solutions to drive long-term soil health, farm resiliency, and economic vitality for small and underserved farms.? In partnership with Chapul Farms and the IPM Institute, we’re using closed-loop containerized insect farming technology that converts organic waste into frass, a nutrient-rich soil amendment proven to boost microbial diversity, improve water retention, and enhance soil structure. These benefits can not only improve crop yields but also create healthier, more resilient farmland for the future. Over the course of three years, we’ll work with 16 small and underserved crop farms across Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, and New York, providing financial incentives, expert guidance, and marketing support.
