As National Apprenticeship Week comes to a close, we want to take a moment to acknowledge everyone at Re:Build Manufacturing who contributes to the success of our outstanding apprenticeship programs. These programs have a profound impact on the growth and development of individuals, and we are proud to have such dedicated people driving their success. The final employee that we are highlighting this week is Frank Ekiert, who is a Sheet Metal Journey Worker at Re:Build Optimation Technology, LLC. What inspired you to become an apprentice? Being a skilled mechanic and not having to do the same thing day after day. What skills have you gained during your apprenticeship? Layout, fabrication, welding, estimating, planning, scheduling, material procurement, etc. What role has mentorship played in your apprenticeship journey? Being able to provide my experience to help develop their skills and to feel confident in making decisions to become a journeyman. To help guide them to think for themselves with that knowledge. What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship? Be all that you can be. Take on new challenges (even if it is not trade specific).

For today's spotlight, we are featuring Brittany Burch, who is a Journey Worker and Former Apprentice at Re:Build Composite Resources. What inspired you to become an apprentice? The apprenticeship program inspired me to become more experienced with my work. I was provided with book knowledge and on-the-job training. The apprenticeship also came with a pay increase, I mean who doesn’t love more money? What skills have you gained during your apprenticeship? I’ve gained skills in understanding the different resin systems, different kinds of carbon fibers, how to read and understand drawings/SOP better which will help me produce better parts. What role has mentorship played in your apprenticeship journey? During my journey I was able to share the knowledge, and skills I gain from the apprenticeship with my co-workers. What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship? I would tell anyone interested in apprenticeship to pursue it. Gaining more knowledge and understanding is key to advancing in your career.?

Today's spotlight is on Marcie Dalton, a Welding Journey Worker and Former Apprentice at Re:Build Optimation Technology, LLC. What inspired you to become an apprentice? I was looking to change my career path after having my son. I reached out to Re:Build Optimation for general consideration, as they were not hiring at the time, and was contacted about an opportunity in the apprenticeship program. What better way to expand your skills than paid training! What skills have you gained during your apprenticeship? Amongst the countless relevant skills to my trade, the most outstanding skill I have acquired is the ability to be confident in the knowledge I’ve obtained, and being able to apply it to decision making both at work and outside of work. There has been a lot of personal growth, as well as professional growth. What role has mentorship played in your apprenticeship journey? I’ve been extremely privileged to have been mentored by some very talented and knowledgeable tradesmen. Not only in welding, but in other trades as well. I hope to be able to pass this on to the next generation someday in my role as a journeyman. What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship? Do it.?Don’t give up, and always be teachable. My apprenticeship was full of its own challenges that forced me to grow into the journeyman I am now.?I always felt like I faced challenges eagerly, knowing I would be better for it when I was past it.

Our employee feature for today is Mike Lowery, a CNC Machining Apprentice at Re:Build Cutting Dynamics . What inspired you to become an apprentice? The desire to improve myself and my capabilities to better support myself, my family, and the company in accomplishing our goals. ? What skills have you gained during your apprenticeship? In terms of skills I've gained, they are somewhat limited thus far, but the skills I've honed are writing and reading programs, better critical thinking and problem solving, and a refreshed perspective of CAD programs. ? What role has mentorship played in your apprenticeship journey? Mentorship in a traditional 1:1 sense has played a minimal role. However, being able to communicate and interact with other professionals in the industry through this program has provided a wealth of knowledge and expanded my horizons greatly. ? What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship? Advice I would give to someone considering it, is that if their personal life allows for the extra time expenditure to go for it. The knowledge alone is worth it for developing themselves. Not to mention the practicality of the certification.?

In honor of National Apprenticeship Week, over the course of the next 5 days, we will feature a Re:Build employee who currently is or has been an apprentice, or has played a pivotal role in the development of our apprenticeship program. We are proud to support the development of people through apprenticeship programs! Today, we are featuring Jack Shannon, who is an Apprentice Sheet Metal Worker at Re:Build Optimation Technology, LLC. What inspired you to become an apprentice? As someone who started the apprenticeship a little “later” in life (35), it really came down to wanting to make a long-lasting positive change in my life. At the time I was worried about whether it would be too challenging. Now, I can’t imagine doing anything besides working in the trades. What skills have you gained during your apprenticeship? It’s often understated how similar many of the trades can be in terms of the base skills you learn. So, once you begin to grasp that base knowledge, you also will begin to feel infinitely more confident with so many everyday things outside of your trade, from changing your brake pads to renovations in your home or even putting together a little IKEA desk. What role has mentorship played in your apprenticeship journey? I’m very lucky to have some great mentors! They’re the ones that will be teaching you most of the important stuff, so their role is huge. It’s also very beneficial to have a few different people that you can gain knowledge from. Most problems have multiple solutions, and often times the best course of action is to get multiple peoples’ opinions and decide for yourself how you will handle it based on their advice. What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship? Just do it! I promise that you will gain valuable skills that will follow you for life. So many businesses are looking for tradespeople right now. Everything you learn will be practical and functional in both your work and home lives. Highly recommended!
