Mayor Joe Hogsett joins partners to celebrate new housing units supported by Housing to Recovery Fund?? INDIANAPOLIS – Today, Mayor Joe Hogsett joined leadership of the Indianapolis Foundation, Indiana University Health (IU Health), Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation, and housing and social service providers to celebrate the opening of the first units at St. George Apartments. The interim supportive housing complex is the latest initiative supported by the Housing to Recovery Fund, which is now scaling up and recruiting new corporate partners on its 5-year anniversary through the new “Stop and Help” campaign.? St. George Apartments ? St. George Apartments will serve as an interim housing option for those seeking permanent supportive housing. Through strategic cross-sector partnerships, St. George was created to remove traditional barriers to leasing by matching individuals and families with units and social service providers at the same time. This method limits the amount of time that individuals and families experience homelessness by ensuring they have the support necessary to exist in a healthy and stable living situation even in an interim environment.?? "With the unveiling of 53 housing units at St. George, today is a perfect time to reflect on what the Housing to Recovery Fund has accomplished, and what it looks to accomplish in the future,” said Mayor Hogsett. “Thanks to the services made available through this fund, participants have attained a near-universal level of housing stability along with dramatic improvements to health and wellness outcomes.”??? Thanks to a $2.1 million grant from IU Health for building acquisition, over $1.5 million in Opioid Settlement Funds from the City of Indianapolis for rehab and operations led by RDOOR Housing Corporation and Collins Housing Solutions, and $390,000 from the Housing to Recovery Fund to Horizon House to support wrap-around services, the former Douglass Court Apartments have been transformed into St. George Apartments.??? “IU Health is proud to be an early investor in this approach to creating supportive housing for unhoused individuals with substance use disorders,” said Dennis Murphy, President and CEO, IU Health. “We’re delighted to be joined by the City of Indianapolis and the corporate and philanthropic community who are stepping up to financially support the Housing to Recovery Fund to help alleviate long-term homelessness and substance use challenges in our community.”??
