Meet Our Team! RCOAST founder, Dr. Christy Swann, has worked with NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Department of Defense to build advanced technologies to both measure and harness environmental changes on both Earth and Mars. Among her many accomplishments, she has won 2 national awards for her research, published over 25 scientific articles on coastal change and planetary processes, and given numerous invited talks. She is currently partnered with the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory on a joint-lander mission build for Mars. Dr. Swann has been an editor of two academic journals, served on technical committees overseeing the development of coastal resilience tools for the Department of Defense and is a world leader in barrier islands and windblown sand.?

Some shots from an awesome day with National Football League (NFL) Green, FORCE BLUE, and the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana. RCOAST was out there tossing bags of oyster shells (59 tons of them to be exact!) to build a living shoreline in Leeville, Louisiana. #RCOAST #LivingShoreline #CoastalRestoration

The reality of coastal erosion captured here in the Outer Banks hits close to home. At RCOAST, we're not just observing - we're taking action by providing homeowners with practical, data-driven solutions to protect their properties. Join us in making coastal resilience accessible to all. ???? #rcoast #resilienttogether #coastaladaptation
Last week, RCOAST was working along the Outer Banks of North Carolina and captured this footage highlighting the front lines of coastal change. Numerous homes have already fallen into the ocean here, and more are waiting their turn. Our response to how we adapt on our coast has never been more critical. We must provide a way for individuals and homeowners to intelligently adapt so that we do not reach these tipping points. Government entities are putting lots of capital towards science, data and strategic planning and mitigation to solve this problem, but they can't do it alone. The problem is hyper local and simply too big and too complex for the government alone to fix it. Let's empower the 2.15 billion people that live on our coasts to take proactive steps to increase their resilience and reduce flooding. Join us as we lead the charge in commercializing coastal resilience so that our oceans stay clean and our coastal communities stay healthy. It starts with you; it ends with us. We are #resilient, together. #resilienttogether #coastaladaptation #cat #science #data #climatechange #proactivemitigation #proactive

Our Founder and CEO is giving an international talk tomorrow on the foundational work of R.A. Bagnold - the father of aeolian geomorphology. The work of R.A. Bagnold has provided coastal geomorphologists the ability to predict how much windblown sand can be deposited into foredunes to build their resilience to storm events. Listen in to learn more about this foundational work and how RCOAST is harnessing it to help homeowners and HOAs become more resilient to coastal change.
Hi Folks! I'm giving a lecture tomorrow (10/3) for the International Society of Aeolian Research to talk about the life and science of R.A. Bagnold and his contributions to our understanding of windblown sand on Earth, Mars and other planetary bodies. To join us, please register via link to below! Talk Summary: Aeolian transport on Earth, Mars, and other planetary bodies is a complex process that is difficult to observe in the field and challenging to predict with models. Despite significant advancements in instrumentation and computational techniques, the foundational theories developed by R.A. Bagnold in the 1930s remain highly influential. This presentation will examine the contributions of Bagnold, who initiated his pioneering research on windblown sand during Royal Navy operations in the Libyan desert. Lacking an established community of aeolian researchers, Bagnold collaborated with fluvial sedimentologists to develop methods for measuring and modeling sand transport by wind. He constructed the first wind tunnel for the experimental study of aeolian processes, enabling him to quantitatively and qualitatively assess key phenomena, including modes of sand transport, velocity profiles, thresholds of motion, and the dynamics of particle impact and ejection. Bagnold's work successfully scaled these small-scale processes to broader understandings of sand transport, dust lifting, and dune formation. By the end of his career, his research extended to marine sediment transport, fluvial dynamics, and aeolian processes on Mars, influencing the study of wind-driven sediment transport across multiple disciplines. This talk will explore Bagnold's fundamental observations, the assumptions underlying his models, and the enduring impact of his work on contemporary sediment transport research. #aeolian #womeninscience #science #wind #coastaldunes #mars #windblownsand #dunes #geomorphology #coastal RCOAST Registration Link: https://lnkd.in/gvpUU5eR
