Wireless signals attenuate as they proceed from the transmitter to the receiver. The path loss is both a function of distance and frequency. There is particularly high path loss at the millimeter wave and terahertz frequencies. This is due to the presence of water vapor and Oxygen in the atmosphere as well as rain in some cases.
