  • Last Saturday, several of our senior living and multifamily apartment community team members joined together to participate in the Sacramento Walk to End Alzheimer's. Thank you to Natalie, our Marketing Director at Campus Commons Senior Living, for coordinating this event for everyone. It was a really beautiful event on a gorgeous day! Our team name was "Rays of Hope" and that's exactly what it felt like being out there with thousands of people supporting such a wonderful cause.

    Local Handel's Homemade Ice Cream franchisees adding Citrus Heights store Handel's Homemade Ice Cream is planning to open its sixth area location, which will be in a Citrus Heights shopping center. The Ohio-based chain specializes in ice cream that is made fresh daily in-store with more than 100 flavors on its menu, in addition to sundaes, milkshakes, ice cream pops and ice cream sandwiches. Handel's Homemade Ice Cream, which was founded in 1945 and started franchising in 1989,?entered the market with a location in Folsom?that opened in 2019. Since then, local franchisees Blake and Melissa Carlile have added sites in?Elk Grove,?Roseville,?Natomas?and?Rancho Cordova. The Carliles are in the process of opening their sixth area location, which will fill an approximately 3,500-square-foot space at 8055 Madison Ave. in Citrus Heights' Almond Orchard shopping center. Work is underway at the site and the operators anticipate it will open in early October. "This will be our largest location, so we are planning to have a party room that can be reserved for private parties," said Melissa Carlile. "The location will accommodate walk-ins and walk-ups. We'll have 24 flavors that are consistently featured daily as well as 24 rotating flavors." The operators are planning to hire around 40 employees for the?Citrus Heights store. Carlile said the hiring process has already started. Almond Orchard is located at the northwest corner of Fair Oaks Boulevard and Madison Avenue where Citrus Heights meets Fair Oaks. The shopping center is owned by Sacramento-based Ray Stone Inc. and?anchored by Miller's Ace Hardware, which opened last year. "What Handel's ultimately leased is a larger footprint than they typically seek, but it was a classic scenario of landlord and tenant working together to create a winning scenario for both parties," said broker Matt Goldstein of Gallelli Real Estate, in an email. "Between Handel's and the newish Ace Hardware that recently opened in the adjacent building I think that will create a lot of activity on that side of the shopping center." Goldstein represented the Carliles in the lease agreement, while Carol Sitzenstatter and Natalie Hinkel represented Ray Stone. Handel's Homemade Ice Cream currently operates more than 100 locations throughout the U.S. Carlile said the local operators don't have any immediate plans to open another area store but are exploring opportunities.
