Stop filling your scripts with endless dialogue (unless you write soap opera). Film making is a visual medium. We like to watch what our characters do. Great dialogue or sound bites are important. Sound is 1:3 of your film! However, needless dialogue is your fastest ticket to bored-ville. Hearing your character say a great zinger to the bad guy, well that is fun and sometimes makes a great movie moment. But know what really gets an audience going? Watching our hero as something happens to them. We love watching others, so let the audience have a chance to watch your hero rather than listen to them too much. Besides, one well placed line is worth twenty.

Stop! Before you work today, you forgot something important. REST. Have you been working all week? Longer without a break? It’s tempting to keep grinding at our work or private projects. We often feel that time is slipping away and every moment working is important. But did you know that your off time is just as necissary to produce good content? Not only do you need rest to function, physically and emotionally, but your brain needs time to process. Imagine it like working out. You go to the gym to lift weights, which strains your muscles and will eventually lead to greater strength. But you need time to rest and let your muscles get stronger. That happens while you ARE’NT working out. So log off, sign out, close the laptop or notebook and go take a walk, play a board game or read. Your brain has got your back and will keep working behind the scenes, even if you take a break. It’s possible your revolutionary idea will come with the dawn. Enjoy your weekend!
