I talked to a few of the companies that are scaling up production of silicon anode materials. Silicon stores lots of energy, but silicon-dominant anode materials have so far been too expensive for electric cars. Several companies say that larger facilities will make the high-capacity battery materials cheap enough for EVs. They'll likely go into expensive vehicles first, but many of these firms say that they'll continue to get more efficient and hope to eventually get silicon into the batteries of more affordable cars.
