Building on our progress and planning for a bright future! ?? Yesterday, our Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) took the stage to present their research results within RAPTOR, showcasing their contributions to advancing real-time adaptive particle therapy, pushing the boundaries of precision and personalisation in cancer care. ?? Following their presentations, the ESRs participated in three parallel sessions focused on exploring future directions beyond RAPTOR: ? ?? Cost-effective realisation of online adaptive therapy ? ?? Technological improvements for different tumour locations ? ?? Concepts beyond anatomy-based adaptations These discussions sparked great ideas on how to refine and expand adaptive therapy to better meet patient needs and push the boundaries of precision medicine. ???? Stay tuned for today's events! ?????? Today, we are diving into the status quo and implementation of online adaptive particle therapy. ?? ?? PSI has already demonstrated the first clinical implementation of a daily online adaptive proton therapy (DAPT) workflow. By re-optimising treatment plans using daily CT images and an efficient quality assurance protocol, they showed that a fully adaptive workflow could be integrated within the typical treatment timeslot. ?? We will also hear from the ProtOnART consortium, a unique collaboration of research centres, clinics, and industry partners working to transform adaptive proton therapy into a clinical reality. ?? Additionally, there will be an exciting session on MR-guided proton therapy prototype. This innovative system, developed at OncoRay in Dresden, combines a full-body MRI for real-time imaging with a proton therapy unit, allowing for unparalleled visualisation and precision in tracking and treating moving tumours. #cancerresearch #particletherapy #medicalphysics #adaptivetherapy #RAPTOR #EUfunded #ProtonTherapy #PSI #ProtOnART #OncoRay #ResearchInnovation #PrecisionMedicine #MedicalResearch #CancerCare #RadiationOncology #FutureOfMedicine #OncologyResearch #BiomarkerResearch #ScientificCollaboration #NextGenTherapy #MedicalPhysicsResearch

We are empowering the next generation of particle therapy scientists! ?? Today our Early Stage Researchers (ESRs)?took part in a grant writing workshop -- a key step toward launching their careers as independent scientists and experts in their fields. Our ESRs also presented the results of their research within RAPTOR and engaged in discussions on the future of online adaptive particle therapy, to make this treatment even better. ?? At the same time, the #RAPTOR+ workshop continues building on the RAPTOR project’s achievements to expand the network of researchers and keep enhancing particle therapy. We now do not want to explore only anatomy-based adaptations, but also #biomarker-based adaptation to make treatments even more personalised and effective ???? The day concluded with a tour of #OncoRay — the National Center for Radiation Research in Oncology in #Dresden. ?? ?? STAY TUNED FOR TOMORROW'S REPORT! #cancerresearch #particletherapy #medicalphysics #adaptivetherapy #RAPTOR #EUfunded #EU #radiotherapy #Horizon2020

Unlocking the full potential of particle therapy with RAPTOR ?? Particle therapy is a highly precise form of cancer treatment ?? that uses beams of charged heavy particles ?? to target tumours while sparing surrounding healthy tissues ???. But what if we could make it even more precise? ?? That’s where the RAPTOR consortium comes in. ?? Supported by the EU, RAPTOR is pushing the boundaries of cancer treatment by developing online and real-time adaptive techniques to adjust the treatment to any changes in the patient’s anatomy ??, even during a single session. With real-time imaging ??, faster planning ?, and advanced verification ?, the goal is to deliver safer, more personalised care ??. ?? Watch this video to see how RAPTOR is advancing the future of cancer therapy in Europe and beyond!? https://lnkd.in/eve7X-Z9 P.S.?? Starting today, 3. 10. 2024, we are hosting the final conference of the RAPTOR consortium in Dresden ???—stay tuned for more updates! ?? #cancerresearch #particletherapy #medicalphysics #adaptivetherapy #RAPTOR #EUfunded #EU #radiotherapy #Horizon2020

?? Excited to announce our latest publication in Medical Physics: “Adaptive intensity modulated proton therapy using 4D robust planning: a proof-of-concept for the application of a dose-mimicking approach”! This paper presents an innovative automated 4D robust optimization (4DRO) method, designed to streamline the adaptive proton therapy process, particularly for thoracic tumors that require frequent imaging and treatment plan adaptation. By introducing a dose-mimicking strategy, we aim to reduce clinical workload while improving treatment outcomes. Key highlights: ?? Enhanced target coverage and improved sparing of organs-at-risk ?? Effective management of respiratory motion and anatomical changes ?? Biologically consistent dose accumulation and variable RBE analysis, addressing non-linear biological effects and uncertainties ?? We believe this research marks a step forward in advancing adaptive proton therapy techniques to improve patient care. ??
