Really great publication from Virginia Institute of Marine Science highlighting oyster reef work in the Rappahannock River!
Science-based fisheries management is paying off in the Rappahannock River! A new study from our member institution the Virginia Institute of Marine Science shows that shell replenishment and rotational harvests are driving steady increases in oyster densities and harvests. The Virginia Marine Resources Commission has invested over $14 million toward replenishment since 2000 and implemented rotational harvests in 2007. This is science in action–helping oysters, watermen, and the health of the Chesapeake Bay! Read more: https://loom.ly/jRPzdDU Photo by Steve Droter/Chesapeake Bay Program
