? ?Impact Story: Quick Thinking Saves the Day ? When a 9-1-1 dispatch supervisor took a tragic call, her experience kicked in—she realized she might have the suspect on the line. Staying calm and trusting her instincts, she used available technology to track the caller, leading to his arrest. Her quick thinking and unwavering dedication made all the difference that day. We couldn’t be more proud of her commitment to keeping her community and her field responders safe!? Thanks to Brenda Geier, CCM??for sharing the story, and for your passion in 911! ?? #RapidSOS #DataToJustice #Technology #EmergencyResponse

If you’re a Chief Security Officer, you’ll be interested in what 300 of your peers had to say about the State of Emergency Response. Here are 5 key insights from this RapidSOS report: 1. 49% of teams report frequent delays in emergency SOPs due to late notifications Nearly half of respondents reported frequent delays in executing SOPs, with 63% citing late or incomplete notifications as the primary cause. 33% of the 300 security leaders we surveyed reported not being aware of the emergency until first responders arrived. These delays disrupt evacuations, heighten safety risks, and cause operational downtime. 2. 42% of organizations rely on manual incident notification methods Organizations are heavily investing in security; 53% allocate $1–5M annually, and 42% allocate $6–10M. Still, despite the availability of advanced technologies, 42% still rely on manual notification methods like employee-initiated GSOC alerts. This causes delays, miscommunication, and inefficiencies; 47% of respondents reported $1–5M in losses from delayed responses to high-severity emergencies. 3. Challenges with current emergency notification systems lead to a host of communication failures Emergency notification challenges remain a significant barrier to effective responses. These challenges result in critical gaps: - 20% of teams struggle to coordinate with first responders due to delays in awareness of onsite emergencies - 13% report limited coverage at rural or understaffed locations - 16% face difficulties prioritizing high-stakes incidents as overwhelming alert volumes delay responses 4. Real-time 911 call data improve onsite response and decision-making Security teams often struggle to align their onsite security with external agencies during emergencies. Enhanced 911 data visibility helps address these challenges by improving: - on-site staff effectiveness (16%) - reducing unnecessary deployments (16%) - enabling faster decision-making (14%) 5. 79% of corporate security leaders agree they could have done more to mitigate response delay Most respondents strongly agreed that improving communication workflows and reducing reliance on manual escalations could mitigate these delays. ----- At RapidSOS, our mission is to raise awareness of what we call The Safety Gap. The Safety Gap is the disconnect between how safety works today and how it could work with the technology and innovation around us. This report is a great illustration of this gap. Despite US companies spending ~$200B annually on safety technology… 42% of organizations rely on manual incident notifications, and 33% only learn about the incident upon the first responders' arrival. The good news? In talking to 100's security leaders, we’ve found that once there is Awareness of the Safety Gap, the desire to close the gap becomes a priority. The first step to raising awareness of the safety gap can be reading this report in full (link in the comments).

Cardiac arrest survival rates have been stagnating at 10% for decades, making them the leading cause of death in the United States (~1,000 fatalities per day). When dealing with a cardiac arrest, nothing improves survival rates as much as immediate intervention in the form of: - CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) - AED (automated external defibrillators) For example, immediate CPR can double or triple a person's chance of survival after cardiac arrest. As this is one of the biggest challenges in public health and safety, we had to cover it in the latest episode of the Safety Gap podcast. We sat down and talked with Meir Berkman from Avive Solutions Inc., a paramedic who's been responding to hundreds of cardiac arrest emergencies for over a decade. Given that the immediate use of AEDs dramatically improves survival rates, we asked Meir, "What is stopping us from using them more and faster?" Here are the three core challenges identified: 1?? Difficulties in locating the nearest AED Cardiac arrest survival rates are highest in places like casinos. With tons of devices, cameras everywhere, and well-trained staff, there's a good chance the AED will be located quickly. In most other public places, like restaurants and bars, it's proven hard to find AEDs on time. 2?? People reporting the cardiac arrest find it intimidating to use AEDs Often, the person reporting the emergency is too intimidated to use an AED and will instead choose to wait for the emergency responders. Unfortunately, by the time first responders arrive, it is often too late. This is why educating the broader public about CPR and AEDs is essential. We need to overcome this stigma and encourage anyone nearby to grab that AED off the wall and use it. 3?? Most AEDs are in public areas, while 70-90% of cardiac arrests happen at home Most AEDs are placed in schools, gyms, shopping malls - all public access areas. On the other hand, anyone who has responded to a number of cardiac arrest emergencies (including Meir) will tell you that most of them happen at home. With ~70% of cardiac arrests happening at home, the current infrastructure just isn't serving the patients who experience this clinical condition. ---- We hope you join us in spreading awareness about this problem. It's not an easy problem to solve, but you'll find companies like Avive fighting it at the front line: Their Avive Connect AED is the first AED that alerts 911. During an emergency, the AED automatically notifies the nearest 911 call center, helping to provide faster response times for the patient, better-informed decision-making for first responders, and peace of mind for the rescuer. Avive has also started the “4 Minute Community” initiative, which helps communities strategically locate AEDs so that everyone can be reached in 4 minutes. ???New survey data from RapidSOS reveals that in 50% of emergency incidents, first responders arrive at a corporate facility before security teams know what's happening. This can create delays, confusion, and missed opportunities to provide first responders with critical information needed to act faster. Tomorrow (March 6), I'll be joining Karin Marquez, ENP, CMCP, and Cassidy Shield for a discussion on: -Why security teams are often the last to know - and how to fix it -The role global security operation centers play in real-time incident detection and response coordination -How security leaders can strengthen partnerships with public safety I'll share real-world examples from my time leading security teams at MGM Resorts and Kaiser Permanente on how we adapted after experiencing these challenges.
