Today I'm sharing the first episode of my podcast, the Open Design Docs Podcast, where I interviewed designer, entrepreneur and friend, Masoud A.. Masoud is the Co-Founder & CEO of Rapha, a recruiting platform driven to humanize the hiring process. Masoud’s journey is nothing short of inspiring: from his early days as a self-taught designer to leadership roles at Okcoin and Meta, and ultimately to launching Rapha. His story is filled with insights for anyone considering taking the leap from design to business. We cover: ?? The transition from designer to founder — and how Masoud’s design mindset influenced his approach to business ?? Lessons learned from his first startups, like a college carpooling app, and how it led to a deeper understanding of product-market fit ?? Balancing work, family, and startup responsibilities — Masoud’s approach to sustainable, purpose-driven entrepreneurship ?? Listen and follow on: Substack: https://lnkd.in/gVeuvt98 Spotify: https://lnkd.in/gSCK3YWC YouTube: https://lnkd.in/gFFh97zK Key Insights and Takeaways: 1. Launch fast, learn faster. Masoud encourages aspiring founders to get a product in users' hands early and iterate based on real-world feedback, highlighting how each launch sharpens focus and accelerates growth. 2. Design as a business foundation. He explains how empathy and customer experience, core elements of design, directly influence how he leads and scales Rapha. 3. Building a product around people. For Masoud, making hiring “human” means crafting a process that respects candidates’ time, talents, and unique stories — turning job applications into meaningful conversations. 4. Balancing a startup with family. Masoud shares his candid experiences juggling the demands of a fast-growing company with time for family, showing that passion and prioritization go hand in hand.

Listen to how Alex Libre is using Rapha :)
Founder @ Libre Talent // ex-Google, Anyscale, and Grammarly // I hire 100x engineers for iconic early-stage startups. Threw a 100x in there just to get your attention.
This is Rapha. I consider it to be the single most valuable tool – AI or otherwise – that I have ever used. Period. I'm not exaggerating when I say that it's given me back more than 30 hours per week, and enabled me to do my job BETTER. To understand how it works, it's useful to think about why we have initial candidate recruiter screens in the first place. We obviously want to learn about the candidate and evaluate their qualifications for the role, but we also want to share information with them about the company and the position so that they feel informed and excited going into subsequent interview rounds. Rapha does both, using innovative speech-to-text tech embedded in a super sleek Superhuman-esque UI. I think the future of the recruiting is asynchronous, and Rapha is clearly the best product in the space. For anyone who might be thinking that candidates or hiring managers probably hate this or that it sacrilegiously eliminates the “human touch”: that simply has not been what I’ve heard from candidates or hiring managers. They both consistently tell me that they prefer it over traditional synchronous recruiter screens. I'm not sponsored by Rapha or anything, but I felt compelled to make this video because it has literally given me back 30 hours per week that I can now use for sourcing, business development, marketing, giving more white-glove attention to my late-stage candidates, and all the other things that go into being a good recruiter.? And it probably goes without that saying that what I love most is that it's given me more time to spend with family, my friends, and — any day now — my soon-to-be-born son. Definitely worth checking out if you're a startup founder or a recruiter – their website is?www.withrapha.com.

Candidate experience can't be AI-generated. One of many differentiators between Rapha and every other recruiting platform is that people ACTUALLY enjoy and WANT to apply when they see the company uses Rapha. None of that... Create an account first crap Speak to a my ai robot that has zero context on you Fill out this stale form-fill Add your cover letter (huh?) Easy Apply (does not make anyone's life easier) Swipe right to auto-apply lol But more like giving people a stage to put their best foot forward and control the narrative like Yulia Khvan! There is a reason that recruiting starts with "R"...because your process should run, start, and end with Rapha -- Happy Friday! withapha.com

Make Hiring Human Again.
Rapha has consolidated and conducted over 10,000+ initial phone screens -- equivalent to 300,000 hrs saved. I'm proud to say it was done without a weird ai-avatar or chat bot. Candidates + recruiters have been loving it. We are defending the human element in this AI world by leveraging it. Let's make hiring human...again ?? withrapha.com

Being a founder parent requires a different level of grit and Alex Libre over at Libre Talent definitely knows! When I first onboarded Alex for Rapha, he was using a frankenstack of tools to get things done. Spreadsheets, AI tools, Loom videos, etc. Now with Rapha... ?? All of Alex's write ups are transcribed + summarized for the HM w/o a phone screen (yes you read that right) ?? Alex is able to push candidates along within a built-in CRM ?? Alex is able to sell the role via audio job description so candidates know what the expectations are ?? HM's are able to LISTEN to applicants and collaborate with Alex at step 0 ?? Alex is able to to focus on quality vs quantity ?? Candidates finally feel human again and are able to provide the much needed context in this AI world... Because of this... ? Alex gets hours back every week to spend time with the family ? Client gets their hire faster, more efficiently, and get time back + save money ? Candidate finally gets to tell their story and this is all happening at step 0. --- As I was writing this out...I was constantly ?? glancing at my baby monitor to make sure my son (2yr old) and daughter (1yr old) are sleeping okay. It's basically my third monitor in my "office space" lol. My co-founder Marcelo Eden Siqueira understands this too with his two daughters. The founder journey is a challenge within itself and becomes even more of a challenge when you have kids...but I gotta say I absolutely love it and wouldn't want it anyway. When looking at the journey ahead, I have no doubt in my mind that both Marcelo and I are built for it -- the ink is dry. We want to make sure people like Alex Libre, recruiters, hiring managers etc are able to spend quality time with their families, their team, their projects etc by any means necessary. Congrats again Alex on the little one :)

Masoud A. chopped it up with Hiring Humans team (Danny Martinez and Charchris Sloan)
Growth & Marketplaces | Fractional Growth Operator | EIR @ Everything Marketplaces | ex: Airbnb, eBay
After countless rejections, here’s the “hack” a founder used to land a design role at Meta. He’s since built a product using this hack to help hiring managers and recruiters skip the initial phone screen. Masoud A. used his experience as a recruiter to get creative in his application for a design role at Meta. And it worked. After countless rejections, he knew he needed to find a way of telling his story to hiring teams. So, he created an audio resume and landed the job. Today, he runs a startup, Rapha, which is intent on defending the human element in job applications using voice and AI. This is a refreshing approach in the sea of AI-agent recruiter startups, which we discuss in an interview for Hiring Humans next week. We also discuss: - How job applicants have impressed him - Red flags he watches out for in interviews - The role he sees recruiters playing in future _____________ ?? If you'd like AI tips for hiring or how to run your startup, I send a weekly 30-second (+ longer form post) newsletter with lessons learned from conversations with founders and early-stage teams. Subscribe in the comments. _____________ ?? Last week: Hiring for an AI-first startup. How to maximise revenue per employee. ?? This week: How two founders from Uber and Palantir are disrupting recruiting. ?? Next week: How a founder used a hack to get a job at Meta and then build a recruiting product.
