We had so much fun piloting our new #Schools-to-Pasture K-12 field trip program with a small rural school, the Guffey Community Charter School, and our own, La Dolce Vita Ranch in Park County #Colorado! To follow up from my previous post that shared an article about the program, I want to elaborate that at Schools-to-Pasture we are connecting dots and planting seeds. We are connecting the dots between state classroom science curriculum and #agroecology…where #food is produced in harmony with nature and land is managed through an #ecological lens. We are planting seeds of inspiration…that the children of today learn the importance of stewarding and protecting intact #rangeland #ecosystems, that their innate curiosity and sense of awe of animals and the natural world is nurtured, and that they witness a sample of the many educational paths, jobs, and roles to which they can aspire as adults. ????????? At the Rangeland Living Laboratory Inc we believe that “supporting working lands stewardship” is not only about those who are the decision-makers today, but those who will inherit and carry on the work we leave behind. ????????? A huge thank you to the fantastic instructors who partnered with us, Dr Roy Roath from Colorado State University and Rangelander consulting, Emily Gallagher from Grama Grass Livestock, and our 2024 Rangeland Living Laboratory Inc intern Madison Bai who was integral in helping develop the Schools-to-Pasture curriculum. We did it! When the concept of the Rangeland Living Laboratory was born, one of the first programs we workshopped and envisioned was a K-12 field trip program where we would connect the dots between classroom science curriculum, ecology, ranching, land management, food systems, and conservation. Our original, one of a kind “Schools-to-Pasture” field trip program kicked off last week with the Guffey Community Charter School in Park Co, Colorado. Saying it was a success would be an understatement! Thank you to the Tumbleweed Fund and our Board of Directors for making this possible.
