?????? Since April, employers, HR professionals, and legal teams have been reviewing and preparing for the FLSA salary threshold increases imposed by the US Department of Labor. Last Friday, November 15th, a Texas Federal Court struck those down. What does that mean for employers? It means employers who were working on increasing salaries and reviewing their employees for exemption status can pause and regroup. Experts suspect the DOL will appeal, but advise that it's unlikely the appeal will make it past the incoming Republican administration. In Maine the minimum salary for exempt employees will still be changing in January 2025, but the increase is significantly lower than the federal one proposed. In Maine, we take care of each other. It's a new law that applies to all businesses with Maine based employees. It provides workers up to 12 weeks of paid time off for medical, family, military, or safe leave. Starting January 1, 2025, employers and employees will split a 1% premium to fund the program. For businesses with fewer than 15 employees, the total premium will be 0.5% of wages. Maine?s Paid Family & Medical Leave: It?s how we care. It?s who we are.

Election Day is upon us! Is your team ready to support voting? Maine does not have a specific law about allowing employees the time to vote during working hours, but many employers are taking steps to ensure their teams have the time they need to vote. Here are some ways employers can help. 1. Allow for flexed, or modified schedules on Election Day. 2. Offer paid time off. Employees covered under Maine Earned Paid Leave can use their accrued time to vote.? 3. Set up blocks on calendars, or modify business hours to allow employees to go to polls. 4. Work together with your teams to set up car pooling or transportation to the polls.? 5. Send out reminders on the day, and provide resources to your teams so they know when and how to vote.
