RANA is honored to collaborate with We Are Up and K Boodjeh Architects in designing an inclusive, intergenerational community that fosters connection, well-being, and accessibility. We Are Up is a pioneering model that brings together people with intellectual disabilities, seniors, students, and healthcare professionals in a supportive, community-driven environment. By addressing the emotional and financial challenges families face, the project provides affordable housing and shared spaces that promote independence and belonging. Our design enhances this vision through thoughtfully crafted outdoor spaces, including an ADA-accessible amphitheater, sports court, boardwalk and pond, a vibrant community plaza, and a townhouse courtyard. A walking trail winds through open meadows and wetlands, leading to a serene "fairy circle" — all designed to nurture social connections and enrich daily life. We’re proud to contribute to this transformative project! #InclusiveDesign #CommunityLiving #LandscapeArchitecture

Exciting times in Morgan Hill! While I was at KTGY, I got the opportunity to work on a lot of great projects, but there are two that stand out and that I made a strong connection with. One being a boutique hotel and the other an art gallery, both in Morgan Hill, California. Throughout the design journey and into construction, I got to learn about and experience Morgan Hill and build great relationships with two amazing people that had the entrepreneur’s vision for these exciting projects, Frank Léal with the hotel and Dan Mccranie with the gallery. This past weekend, I celebrated the grand opening of Cura Contemporary with Dan, Ellie, Katrina, Nicole, Fabiola, Larry, Kim, Kellie, Randy, Richard, Frank, artists, the community of Morgan Hill, and many more. I’m extremely honored that I got to be part of this exciting building and had the opportunity to work with so many talented people and teams that made it a reality! Congrats to Dan Mccranie, Ellie Honl, Kent Construction, KTGY, KTGY Interior Design & Branded Environments, John A. Martin & Associates, Inc., K2D Inc, Consulting Engineers, Chromatic, Kalesnikoff, Mission Bell Mfg, Inc., FC FRAMING, INC., RANA, KPFF Consulting Engineers, Danny Greenberg, XIN QIAN, Ph.D., S.E., Fabiola Troncoso, and more!! I’m looking forward to the next grand opening, Hotel MOHI by Appellation.

10 years ago, RANA was commissioned to design and engineer what was then the largest living wall in North America. The living wall at Fiddler’s Green, Denver’s largest outdoor amphitheater brings a natural, dynamic backdrop to every concert experience. Our design features a carefully curated mix of nearly 35,000 native Colorado plants, arranged annually to create a fresh, vibrant mural of textures, colors, and seasonal blooms. The wall not only enhances the amphitheater’s atmosphere but also supports local pollinators like butterflies, adding an ecological layer to the art. We are glad to see the wall continue to thrive, framing concert-goers’ views of Denver sunsets and the Rocky Mountains. It’s a project that celebrates both art and nature in every season! #FiddlersGreen #LandscapeArchitecture #DenverArt #LivingWalls #biophillicdesign

This past weekend we celebrated the opening of the first phase of India Basin Waterfront Park! This significant milestone has arrived after nearly a decade of hard work to transform a former post-industrial brownfield into a vibrant public space that supports the local community while restoring one of California’s most endangered habitats. Supporting design leadership by GGN we developed the parks planting design, habitat design, and habitat range shift to accommodate sea-level rise scenarios for 2030 and 2100. With a goal to restore tidal marsh, which once dominated this filled landscape, we engaged in studying the intricacies of habitat transition within the tidal framework, from mudflat to low marsh, to high marsh, to upland. One complete, this adaptive design will feature 75,000 square feet of restored tidal marsh within a 10-acre waterfront space – a resilient and sustainable sanctuary for people and wildlife. #IndiaBasinWaterfrontPark #tidalmarsh #naturebaseddesign #WaterfrontRevival #UrbanEcology

With roughly 60 plant species and more than 6,000 individual plants, the gardens of Francisco Park form a mosaic of California-native plants selected for adaptability, ornamental character and wildlife benefit. Paramount in the design of the parks was using beneficial plants for birds, bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. The planting design borrows from the regions local ecosystems, including California’s native prairie and coastal scrub communities. The Park’s coastal prairie garden draws inspiration from one of the Bay Area’s most vulnerable ecosystems, as seen today at nearby San Bruno Mountain and Point Reyes. The coastal scrub gardens remind us of the windswept coastline of the Presidio on the other side of the Peninsula. Specific habitat plants are included to support pollinator species of interest. According the latest citizen science data on iNaturalist, the Park’s California Pipevine has already attracted the spectacular Pipevine Swallowtail butterfly, a host plant for this species. We love to see it!! #ecologicaldesign #pollinatorgarden #biodiversity #naturebaseddesign #franciscopark #sanfrancisco Francisco Park Conservancy

One of the most rewarding parts of our work is collaborating with exceptional clients. When approached us for their flagship project to life, we jumped at the opportunity. Unfold’s pursuit and belief in the value of process, collaboration, and craftsmanship reminds us that design is about more than just the final product—it’s about the journey, the connections made, and the stories told along the way. As practitioners in landscape architecture, this sentiment rings incredibly true, and we are lucky to work with clients who share this attitude. Breaking ground this week, the landscape for Unfold 01 offers a new chapter to the evolution of this Kendrick Kellogg designed residence, telling the story of its past while setting the stage for its future. Huge thanks to Unfold for this incredible opportunity—we’re inspired and energized by the collaboration and the collection of artists and designers met along the way.
