For the Virginia General Assembly Building, the historic facade of the Life Insurance Company of Virginia building (Clinton & Russell, 1912), is preserved and integrated into the new envelope. Our solution maintains the uniform cornice line that?historically runs all the way around Capitol Square. Project led by RAMSA Partners Graham S. The crown of Claremont Hall is punctuated with four gothic arched figures, giving the tower a presence on the skyline. Claremont Hall’s double-arched windows articulate the corners of the primary masses, while?symmetrical window groupings mark the center of the elevations. Multi-story bay windows increase the sense of Gothic verticality. Windows of the faculty wing are trimmed and quoined in a fashion similar to the neighboring buildings of Morningside Heights. Sharing an architectural identity grounded in openness, visibility, and connectivity, the Timashev Family Music Building and the Department of Theatre, Film and Media Arts Building at the The Ohio State University make arts activities within these buildings visible to passersby and create a high-quality, modern learning environment for interdisciplinary interaction. Conceived as a pair, both buildings feature linear, double-height lobbies spanning their western edges along College Road. These lobbies provide light-filled community spaces and facilitate movement among the buildings’ primary interior spaces and the district’s several buildings. Design led by Kevin Smith, Graham S. Year three!! It's been my great honor and privilege to craft and instruct the RAMSA-WHSAD Foundation Program! With the support of RAMSA | Robert A.M. Stern Architects' Inclusion, Diversity, & Equity Alliance (IDEA), Alyssa Lewis and I worked with 20 students from the Williamsburg High School for Architecture and Design (WHSAD) for a six-week long intro-level architecture/design course! Paired with our studio design curriculum, we incorporated guest lectures on drawing, NYC's architectural history, Rhino drafting software, and environmental design strategies led by MG Lewis, Cole M. Wagner, Frank Y.T. Chen, and Deniz Ece Ozturk. Thank you all for sharing your expertise on these topics! THANK YOU to Bina Bhattacharyya and IDEA Chair Gaylin M. Bowie, for your guidance and support! The 2024 RAMSA Fellow is Joanna Cheung, M.Arch student at Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation. The Fellowship will support Joanna's travel throughout southeastern China to study tulou architecture. The fortress-like tulou structures, built between the 12th and 20th centuries, exemplify sustainable building and communal living.
