Flying out with RAMPD to LA for Grammy Week...
Disasters like the LA fires, or other recent events from war to Covid to climate change, are disabling events - suddenly, a lot of people find themselves acquiring a disability or neurodiversity without warning, and without adequate preparation or support.
Suddenly, a lot of people are engaging with a healthcare industry that is not nearly as convenient as they had hoped, might feel isolated from their friends and family, or overwhelmed with lifestyle changes.
But there is such an important component to these lifechanging events that can sometimes take years to discover - and that is Community. There is a shared culture to being disabled or neurodiverse, and it isn't one of grief or loss at all! It is one of resilience, of adaptation, fierce determination, and most importantly, interdependence.
The Disability Community are the first to make new friends at group therapy, the first to greet you on your first day of physical therapy, the first to share tips on what to expect next on a journey we've already taken. We love you, whoever you are, and we welcome you to find understanding, compassion, community, and shared purpose to thrive!
And if you are in the Music Industry, I mean that far more literally, please do reach out to us at RAMPD, we are gathering and directing support for the industry at large and for those of our membership who were affected.
