As kids throughout our region prepare to return to school, we want to thank Volunteers of America Northern California and Northern Nevada for all the great work they are doing for our communities. ? Their Operation Backpack program provided brand new backpacks, filled with age-appropriate supplies, to over 4,500 students for this school year. For kids impacted by homelessness, poverty and living in the foster care system, having the right tools gives them the confidence and courage to succeed in school. A look into last week! Teachers and Ag in the Classroom staff joined forces (and went on a few field trips) during our annual What's Growin' On? writing meeting. We distribute 100,000 copies of this interactive resource to students statewide every year. It's a fun and visual way to teach and learn about California agriculture. This week, Raley’s, the Sacramento Kings and Volunteers of America Northern California and Northern Nevada joined forces for VOA’s 2024 Operation Backpack Drive. Team members volunteered to assemble 2,550 backpacks filled with school supplies to ensure that homeless and at-risk youth in our local communities return to school with the basic supplies they need.
