As I wrap up my last Emerging Leaders session with Greater Raleigh Chamber, I'm filled with a mix of emotions ??. These past few months have been truly exceptional, thanks in large part to the dedication and leadership of Shana Overdorf. We've had the privilege of learning from and meeting some of Raleigh's most influential leaders – individuals who are the backbone of our city's success and, I must admit, personal heroes of mine. Our closing session featured a true hometown success story: Gina Pearce Stephens, Publisher of Raleigh Magazine. With an impressive background in national media at ABC and NBC, Gina returned to Raleigh to make her mark. After founding and selling several successful local publications, she launched Raleigh Magazine – the city's first and only namesake magazine. Some key takeaways from Gina's inspiring story: Journalistic integrity: Raleigh Magazine focuses on quality storytelling, not "pay to play" content. Multi-platform approach: While print remains their core, they've successfully integrated digital platforms and events. Print's enduring value: In a digital age, print media still carries unique credibility and marketing impact. Team building: Surrounding herself with passionate individuals who believe in the mission. Adaptability: Moving to downtown Raleigh to be at the heart of the city's "buzz". A few memorable quotes: "You learn a lot when you're in hot water." "Time - it's the one thing we can't get more of." "Hire for character, you can teach the rest." If you or someone you know is interested in joining the next cohort of Emerging Leaders Raleigh, applications are still open. Don't miss this opportunity to be part of Raleigh's incredible story. Apply here: https://lnkd.in/e6h-wRKB #EmergingLeaders #RaleighChamber #Leadership #RaleighMagazine

After a decades-long run, one of DTR's most iconic establishments, 42nd Street Oyster Bar, is officially closing its doors March 30—with the owners citing re-leasing issues as one of the factors. From its humble beginnings as a grocery store serving oysters and draft beer post-Prohibition to its current status as a highly regarded destination for fresh seafood and quality drinks, the restaurant has certainly left its mark on Raleigh. As of now, there are no plans to relocate. Cheers to an incredible run—you'll be greatly missed!
