Caring for NYC’s Asylum Seekers ??? As New York City shelters tens of thousands of asylum seekers, local organizations are stepping up to provide culturally appropriate, nutritious, and safe meals despite strained resources. ?? The Campaign Against Hunger distributes food to 14,000 families weekly, including halal meals to meet diverse dietary needs. evlovesnyc serves culturally specific meals near shelter processing centers, with half their meals halal to support the asylum seeker community. RaisingHealth Partners tailors meals to reflect dietary requirements and familiar flavors, actively engaging with recipients to learn about their needs. ????? Organizations like Artists Athletes Activists emphasize dignity and care by speaking directly with guests to understand their food preferences. Beyond meals, many provide additional support: RaisingHealth Partners integrates nutrition workshops and health services, while The Campaign Against Hunger offers financial literacy workshops and SNAP enrollment. ??????? 关于我们
RaisingHealth Partners, formerly the Academy of Medical & Public Health Services (AMPHS), is a not-for-profit health service organization based in Sunset Park, Brooklyn with a triple aim to identify barriers to health and wellness in underserved immigrant communities; coordinate truly needed primary care with social assistance; and deliver care with dignity and empathy to marginalized New Yorkers. Through its community public health interventions, RaisingHealth lends to the empowerment of individuals and communities to create their own local and culturally-sensitive health and wellness paradigms. Not only does it strive to tackle clients’ current health issues, but it also promotes disease prevention related to other social determinants of health. In doing so, it creates a safe, open environment where local residents can discuss health concerns and seek care without regard to socioeconomic status, ethnicity, documentation status, and any other discriminatory factor.

RaisingHealth has been fortunate to receive funding from RTW Foundation over the past year and collaborate on monthly pop-up health fairs. Check out this video about our work together!
At RTW Foundation, we aim to provide support beyond grant funding to deepen our engagement with the community and amplify the impact our partners have across New York City! Our co-created Days of Action are one key way we do that. Co-hosted with RaisingHealth Partners, we provided over 120 members of the Sunset Park community in Brooklyn with a variety of health screenings, fresh produce, health resources and family fun activities. RTW Foundation and RTW Investments volunteered alongside the RaisingHealth team and over a dozen other community-based partners including our friends at Mixteca, Weill Cornell Medicine, and NYU Langone Health. Stay tuned for our video series featuring impactful moments from our Days of Action!
