Raising a Reader is a national nonprofit organization supporting children's literacy through family engagement.
关于我们
Raising a Reader (RAR) is a national nonprofit that partners with parents and educators to create brighter futures for children by strengthening family bonds. Family engagement is at the core of what we do. Our evidence-based programs help caring adults set their children up for success by creating shared reading routines, fostering social emotional learning, healthy family relationships and learning skills needed to thrive in school and beyond. Through easy-to-use, multilingual materials and diverse stories, we meet families where they are and make shared reading more engaging and accessible for all children.

Our Raising a Reader team had a wonderful time at Chaney Enterprises' 45th Annual Bull Roast! We are proud to be a beneficiary of Chaney Cares and appreciate their commitment to supporting organizations like ours, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Farming 4 Hunger, and Habitat for Humanity. Thank you, Chaney Enterprises, for making a meaningful impact in our communities! #ChaneyBullRoast #CommunityImpact #RaisingaReader25
Our team members, Jackie Brown and Jada Ward, had an amazing time at Chaney Enterprises' 45th Annual Bull Roast last weekend! This fantastic event is Chaney’s largest fundraiser of the year, and it was packed with fun for all ages, including live music by John Luskey, rock wall climbing, face painting, delicious BBQ, and more. We’re proud to support Chaney Enterprises and their incredible mission. Events like this directly benefit Chaney Cares' non-profit partners, including Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Raising a Reader, Farming 4 Hunger, and Habitat for Humanity. Thank you, Chaney, for your dedication to making a difference in our community! #ChaneyBullRoast #ChaneyEnterprises

Our very own Michelle Sioson Hyman, along with Suzanne Wheeler-Del Piccolo of Raising a Reader Aspen to Parachute and Colleen Gray of The Literacy Project, presented at NAFSCE (National Association for Family, School, and Community Engagement)'s National Assembly. They led a collaborative discussion titled: Building Bridges Through Books: Engaging Families with Diverse Children's Literature through an Aligned Birth-3rd Grade Strategy. #NAFSCEAssembly24 #FamilyEngagement #RaisingAReader

I was honored to present on behalf of Raising a Reader with local Colorado Affiliates, Suzanne Wheeler-Del Piccolo of Raising A Reader Aspen to Parachute and Colleen Gray of The Literacy Project at NAFSCE (National Association for Family, School, and Community Engagement)‘s National Assembly. We engaged 40 family facing professionals in a collaborative discussion on how one can use diverse children’s books to align with NAFSCE core competencies - Reflect, Connect, and Collaborate. The picture is of the notes of the collective wisdom of the group that we will be sharing back with them next week! Note: the ?? in the pic is my son’s stuffie. When I go on business trips he gives me a stuffie and I take pictures of it throughout my trip. We have been doing it since my son was little and even though he is 13 now, he asked me to do it again... An example of how I engage my own family in the mission of serving children and families across the country. #NAFSCEAssembly24

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the City of Phoenix Burton Barr Central Library Family Resource Center to meet the wonderful team running Raising a Reader’s Classic Red Book Bag program! It was incredible to see the smiles on the faces of children and families as they carried their red bags home to read together. Truly a reminder of the power of books to bring families together. I’m so grateful for the hard work of the staff, including Melissa Boyle, Casey Diaz, Victoria Gameros and Tim Valencia and the warm welcome from everyone. Together, we’re building a strong foundation for early literacy and lifelong learning! ?#RaisingaReader #ClassicRedBookBagProgram #EarlyLiteracy #FamilyEngagement #RaisingaReader25Years #FamilyResourceCenter

?? Today, on Indigenous Peoples Day, we honor and celebrate the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Indigenous communities. At Raising a Reader, we are committed to working alongside tribal communities to create and promote books that reflect their language, unique stories and perspectives. We continue to cultivate partnerships with organizations that serve tribal communities across the United States. Research shows that reading and literacy increase when children feel represented in the books they read. To this end, we have curated unique book collections for tribal communities nationwide. Through our collaborations with organizations like the NATIONAL INDIAN HEAD START DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION, Tribal Child Care Association of California, and California Indian Manpower Association, we will continue to build a brighter future where all children can thrive and contribute in school, the workforce and society.? #IndigenousPeoplesDay #RaisingAReaderis25 #DiverseBooks

I had a wonderful visit recently with Claire Louge and Michelli Casta?eda, our partners at Prevent Child Abuse Arizona, where I had the opportunity to learn more about their impactful and essential work. Their commitment to strengthening families and supporting children’s well-being is inspiring. I’m especially grateful for their support in helping implement Raising a Reader at family resource centers across Arizona, where together we’re creating safe, nurturing spaces that empower families through shared reading and early literacy. It’s a privilege to work alongside such a dedicated team! #PreventChildAbuseAZ #RaisingaReader25 #FamilyEngagement #EarlyLiteracy

Join the Children’s Equity Project and New America on Tuesday, October 15 from 2-3:30pm ET for an event introducing a new framework for elementary education. The framework builds on previous foundational efforts centered on children and the ways we know children learn, with a focus on disrupting well-documented, historically rooted, and contemporarily entrenched biases in learning systems. While there is no single ideal elementary school experience, there are core ingredients to which every child needs and deserves access. Guided by research, data, learnings from schools across the United States, parent and family voice, and a desire to design child-centered, joyful, and effective spaces for learning, the framework consists of 14 core ingredients. The event will feature an overview of the framework followed by a panel discussion featuring teacher, family, principal, and superintendent perspectives.
