According to Ted Davis, Coaching is about providing a safe space for conversation. When your coachee feels safe they are willing to reflect honestly about their ideas, beliefs, and effectiveness at work. For example, perhaps with honest reflection a coachee will reveal a procedure they are not effective at in leading a team, or they may be willing to share a story of a failed team project. In total, a safe space for conversations encourages asking basic why-, what-, and how-questions and associated answers (metaphor, story, concept, theory, procedure, action). For example, imagine your coaching session is focused a coachee's role in leading a team… >> Why do teams fail? is answered with a theory and story. >> What is a team? is answered with a concept and metaphor. >> How do you improve teamwork? is answered with procedure and action. ?--> SWIPE to see the AQ Wheel --> #AnswerIntelligence ?#communication #coachingtips? #teams

Great coaches ask questions.?Great coaches also provide answers.? “Coaching is fundamentally about helping people find their own answers but sometimes, an answer from the coach can lead to deeper more productive questions.” -- Jason Langford Brown According to Jason Langford Brown, well-placed answers can stimulate better understanding and questions.? For example, an emerging leader needs to answer basic leadership questions for herself (for self-awareness) and to influence others.?A coach can provide a metaphor or story, or other answers, to stimulate understanding and subsequent conversation (questions and answers) between the coach and coachee. As a coach, you are engaged in basic why-, what-, and how-questions and answer exchange using six answer types (metaphor, story, concept, theory, procedure, action) to help your coachees learn, grow, and perform. >> Why is leadership important? is answered with a theory and story of the leadership connected to important?outcomes. >> What is leadership? is answered with a concept and metaphor to understand leadership. >> How do you lead? is answered with procedures and actions to increase leadership effectiveness. ?--> SWIPE to see the AQ Wheel --> ? #AnswerIntelligence?#Communication #coachingtips?#coaching?

If a coach provides an answer, that is not a red light for the conversation. To the contrary, Chris Friebuger believes a well-placed answer by a coach can be a green light that stimulates deeper understanding, quicker results, among other benefits for the coachee. For example, if a coachee is struggling to understand how to innovate, a coach can discuss a simple procedure, perhaps 3-steps to lead a meeting to encourage innovation. The coach can then follow up with a question, "What do you think about that procedure?" In your next coaching conversation, as a coach you have six answers (story, metaphor, theory, concept, procedure, action) that can act as green lights to get the conversation going. For example: >> Why is innovation important? is answered with a theory and story. >> What is innovation? is answered with a concept and metaphor. >> How do you innovate? is answered with procedure and action. ?--> SWIPE to see the AQ Wheel --> #AnswerIntelligence?#Communication #Innovation #leadership

According to Pavan Bakshi, the best coaches should elicit optimal answers, those that increase self-awareness and perspective. During your coaching sessions, do you connect your clients to the best possible answers. For example, if you are focusing on team engagement with a coachee, do you help connect your clients to the best stories, metaphors, concepts, procedures, and actions? >> Why is the team engaged? is answered with a theory and story. >> What is engagement? is answered with a concept and metaphor. >> How do you increase team engagement? is answered with procedure and action. ?--> SWIPE to see the AQ Wheel --> #AnswerIntelligence?#Communication #coachingtips?#teams

Coaching AQ is the ability to provide elevated answers to important questions. I asked Yolanda, an AQ certified coach to provide a quote to answer the question, "What is coaching?" Her answer, coaching is PRESENCE. Coaches need to establish their own as well as the presence of others. As a coach, you must ask and answer basic why-, what-, and how-questions using six answer types (metaphor, story, concept, theory, procedure, action) to understand PRESENCE as coach. >> Why is coaching effective? is answered with a theory and story of the presence important to valued outcomes. >> What is coaching? is answered with a concept and metaphor to understand the role of presence to coaching. >> How do you coach? is answered with procedures and actions to increase presence. ?--> SWIPE to see the AQ Wheel --> #AnswerIntelligence?#Communication #coachingtips?#coaching
