In response to the House of Lords: Preterm Birth Report, Rainbow Trust's Chief Executive, Zillah Bingley said: "We welcome this report and its recommendations and support Lord Patel’s statement that “Improving outcomes for preterm babies and their families could also generate substantial cost savings within healthcare and education”. "The report highlights the impact that preterm birth has on siblings and the wider family, financial strain families face with months spent travelling to hospitals and the need for emotional and practical support for families in their homes once discharged from hospital; emphasising that emotional and psychological support was “the area of greatest unmet need”." We welcome Wes Streeting’s pledge to help hospices at risk due to the NI amends but we urge him to include charities caring for seriously sick children within the children’s social palliative care sector https://lnkd.in/ez2-bHbd. The NI increase could cost Rainbow Trust an additional £90,000 each year – which from a direct cost perspective is enough to support around 75 families.

Our Corporate Star of the Month for October has to go to our incredible partner, Invesco EMEA for their inspiring triathlon challenge at the beginning of the month. Whilst the British rain and high-water levels had other plans for the canoe stint of the journey, the brave team of 13 Invesco employees took on a unique adventure, travelling from their Henley office to their London office...by bike and on foot, covering approximately 90km! We cheered the team along the route and greeted them at the finish line to enjoy some well-earned carbs (and fizz). Thanks to their grit and determination, along with matched funding from Invesco, the team managed to raise a staggering £13,572. Katherine Burgess, Corporate Fundraising Manager, said: “We are so grateful to the superstars at Invesco for smashing the triathlon challenge, despite the last-minute change of plan. In total, the team raised enough to provide more than 450 hours of support, which means so much to the families who will benefit. It was an absolute pleasure to welcome everyone back to Portman Square and somehow everyone was still smiling! I also want to say a huge thank you to Claire Myers for organising the challenge, and for being such a brilliant advocate of Rainbow Trust!” Invesco are approaching the end of our first year of partnership with Rainbow Trust and are on track to reach their fundraising target of £200,000 by the end of 2025. We have many exciting fundraising plans continuing into next year, as well as a wonderful team of employees volunteering at the upcoming London Comedy Lunch in December! Thank you, Invesco!

?? "The impact of the National Insurance rise on charities like Rainbow Trust is devastating," warned our Chief Executive Zillah Bingley in The Daily Telegraph on Saturday. Unlike NHS services, Rainbow Trust relies solely on donations to support families with a seriously ill child. We provide vital social palliative care that eases the pressure on the NHS. This year’s increase in NI could cost us an additional £90,000 - which from a direct cost perspective is enough to support 75 families for a year. With the government reportedly considering financial support for hospices, we urge the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Rt Hon Wes Streeting MP, and the DHSC to also protect other charitable providers of life-changing, non-clinical support. Zillah Bingley, our Chief Executive, speaking today said: “Today’s Budget was disappointing news for families with a terminally ill child, who Rainbow Trust supports. The government has announced extra funding for the NHS but it is unclear how, if at all, this funding will benefit children and young people who need social palliative care. “The rise in National Insurance for employers to 15% and the reduction of the threshold at which employers are required to pay it is very concerning for Rainbow Trust."
