  • This is not a drill. It’s important to take seriously the level of confusion and fear the LGBTQ community is now living with, but most of all the trans / non-binary community. I’ve been getting Erin’s updates all week and can’t overstate how informative they are!!

Alongside TGEU, we welcome a judgement of the #Italian Constitutional Court finding that #nonbinary peoples’ rights are protected under the Italian Constitution. In a judgment published last week, the Italian Constitutional Court found that non-binary peoples'’ rights are protected under the principles of social identity, equality of citizens and the right to health as guaranteed by the Italian #Constitution. The Court did not, however, recognise a right to be registered as non-binary in Italian civil registries. The Court also repealed the legislative provision requiring #trans people to obtain a court’s authorisation prior to accessing transition-related surgery. ILGA-Europe and TGEU welcome this decision but regret that the Court failed to recognise a right to a third legal gender option in Italian registries and identity documents. Our organisations submitted an amicus curiae in the case, expressing that the introduction of a third legal gender option protects the rights to #selfdetermination, dignity and private life of many trans people, intersex people and people of other gender identities. In the wake of the Sonya Massey shooting, the 'DEI hire' vitriol Kamala Harris is getting from the haters, and all the other nonsense since day one, the Black people in your life may or not be okay. Below is a helpful guide on engaging Black people in the wake of national tragedies and ongoing racism. If you do engage, here are some other tips: ???? Please DO NOT say "I don't see color, I see you." When you say this, you are disregarding the very racism your Black friend or colleague is describing. The individual is still Black whether you choose to acknowledge it or not. ???? Avoid asking "Why is this racist?" That is tiring. Many Black people are exhausted from having to explain (over and over) about why saying the N-word, following us around in stores, and calling someone an affirmative action hire is racist. Google is still free. Type your question in and find out. ???? Avoid rattling off your diversity resume. I get it. You're trying to sound like you're down for the cause. But I got news for you: some of the most racist, inappropriate things I've ever heard were from white people who had bi-racial kids, had abolitionist ancestors, and served poor, underprivileged communities. Why? Because they did the external work without examining their own biases. Saira Rao said it best: "You cannot f*** your way out of racism". ???? Educate yourself. Racism in 1909 is different than racism in 2024. Step into the 21st century. Understand that racism has not disappeared, but evolved. ???? Listen to understand, not to be right. Speaking from personal experience and observation, too many folks aren't listening to Black people. Or if they are, they're waiting for the opportunity to prove why racism doesn't exist because of Obama, Michael Jordan, Colin Powell, or other successful Black people. #DiversityAndInclusion #Diversity #Equality #RacialEquity #Equity Image description: Illustration of things to consider when reaching out to a Black co-worker after a racist attack.

Empowering LGBTQ+ and diverse expats to move, live and thrive abroad.

When people are interested in relocating to Mexico, they often have to fight the negative commentary from friends and family - oh, it's so dangerous there... why would you want to move there, yeesh, aren't you worried about narcos, etc etc? Mexico is one of the most welcoming places I have ever traveled. The history and culture is so vibrant it practically forces its way into all five of your senses and deep into your heart. The people are kind, and patient, and when you make an effort to assimilate, you will feel so welcomed. If you want to know how to move to Mexico, check out this week's Adventure Calls podcast with Ivonne Pavaan, founder of HOST RELOCATION CO. https://lnkd.in/ebJCvBfG Listen to the constant stream of tips and tricks from an actual expert who has spent ten years helping hundreds, if not thousands, of Americans relocate to Mexico! We discuss the realities of life in Mexico: +Safety +The actual cost of living +The importance of learning Spanish +How to get a visa to Mexico +What schools children can attend +What part of Mexico to move to __________________________________ Below are the key takeaways from this episode: Safety for the LGBTQ Community: Mexico offers significant safety and acceptance for LGBTQ individuals, sometimes even more so than in the US. Comprehensive Relocation Services: Host Relocation Mexico provides a range of services including residency, housing, and multicultural training to facilitate smooth transitions for expats. Learning Spanish: Adapting to life in Mexico is easier with Spanish proficiency, and the locals are very kind as you work toward fluency. Cost of Living: Although gentrification has raised prices, the cost of living in Mexico generally remains lower than in the US, particularly for dining and entertainment. _______________________________ #lgbtqmexico #movetomexico #queretaro #queerexpats #howtomoveabroad #queer #lgbtqexpats https://lnkd.in/ebJCvBfG

Part 2 of my two-part series with Hannah Dixon, founder of Digital Nomad Kit talks about how to become a Virtual Assistant (at any phase / stage of life) and work remotely from anywhere. Empowering LGBTQ+ and diverse expats to move, live and thrive abroad.

That escalated quickly. I run a small group on Facebook called Queer Expats Worldwide. The goal is to create an online space for LGBTQ+ expats and immigrants to help each other with the basics of moving abroad AND to celebrate global queer culture. We are not the majority in any country, we do not experience majority privilege in any country, we are at the top of no one's agenda - and yet our community and our cultures thrive in the face of adversity around the world. As this election looms, US queers and our families are starting to get very VERY nervous about Biden losing, and Project 2025 coming into place in January. Over the last few days, as the conversation shifted from Biden's poor performance to the details of Project 2025 and Agenda47, membership in the Queer Expats Worldwide group has almost doubled. Activity is up 6500%. What a lot of people don't realize is that as a same-sex couple, a same-sex couple with children (sometimes biological, sometimes adopted, sometimes both), as a trans person / couple / parent, when we want to move abroad to a certain country, we are often setting precedents. We are often the first same-sex couple a particular immigration employee has come across and rules might be gray, murky, subjective. There might not be actual laws about how a trans person immigrates, what their paperwork must include. We are the only collective space to suss out those answers. We need each other. We need to understand how fellow LGBTQ folks have relocated, what their experiences were, where they feel safe, what the process was, and now, it feels like most people want to know what countries are safe for LGBTQ+ people and can also be processed quickly so that immigration can begin ASAP, should Project 2025 really start coming to fruition. So while it has been super exciting to see the group grow over the last two days, I want to also encourage anyone who is LGBTQ+ and considering a move abroad, or an ally who wants to move to places where queer folks feel safe, please join the group, share the group, invite folks to the group - and then let's start asking questions and sharing answers so that we all feel a sense of unity here in the face of this looming, stressful future that we might be experiencing. Here is the group: https://lnkd.in/eYygEQGW Thank you for sharing!

Empowering LGBTQ+ and diverse expats to move, live and thrive abroad.

??????????I’ve never been more proud of an Adventure Calls episode! What is Pride season actually about anymore? (Not a rant, promise!) Many people smarter than me have been posting insightful articles about corporate pride and rainbow washing this Pride, more than I remember seeing in the past. Pride is, was and always will be a protest. We celebrate this month because of the Stonewall Riots in NYC and the protest march that occcurred the year after. The work done since the start of Pride has greatly advanced equality for queer folks…but not everywhere. Not everywhere in the United States and absolutely not everywhere in the world. No organization knows this better than Rainbow Railroad, which gets 15,000+ requests for relocation or resettlement from lgbtq+ folks around the world each year. It can feel easy to forget or just incredibly hard to imagine that being lgbtq+ is a criminal act, sometimes punishable by death or imprisonment in countries around the world. To kick off Pride 2024 content on the Adventure Calls podcast, I am incredibly proud to be able to share the story of Latoya Nugent, a Jamaican lgbtq+ rights activist who relocated to Canada due to the life-threatening activism she did in her home country. Latoya is now the Head of Engagement at Rainbow Railroad and helping to provide the same impact for others that changed her own life. Please listen and share with your community!
