It’s been a big week for Women in FinTech! ?? From celebrating International Women’s Day with the Visa Women’s Network, to recognising Innovate Finance's Women in FinTech Powerlist 2024, these events have highlighted both the progress made and the work still to be done. At Visa’s IWD event, Mandy Lamb and Elizabeth Day led a powerful conversation on resilience and redirection. At the Innovate Finance Women in FinTech celebration, Railsr’s Louisa Murray and Erica Katsambis were recognised in the Powerlist, and we heard from Janine Hirt and Hannah Dobson about the evolving landscape of FinTech for women in leadership roles. We learnt about the encouraging progress seen in the industry at the moment, with currently 14% of FinTech businesses being founded by women, up from 6% in 2020. Similarly, for the first time, VC funding for women-lead fintechs has surpassed male founders! While the momentum is building, there is still plenty more to be done! Last week, I was pleased to attend the Global Fintech Week held at the Mastercard HQ in London, along with a network of their closest partners.??? Opened with a keynote from Scott Abrahams, EVP Global Partnerships, he recognised partnerships as the force that will shape the future of fintech. ?? Roza-Marina Mellou, MBA & team discussed revolutionising payments through innovation, envisioning a PAN-less society by 2030, meaning no need for 16 digit codes anymore; and being replaced with card tokenisation. It will promote less identity left, ensure unique identifiers for every transaction, and limits fraud with biometric authentication methods being used to store cards details. Katie Ball highlighted growth was booming, with the fintech industry set to be worth $0.5Bn by 2030. This is being fulled by AI, #embeddedfinance & consumer expectations. It was great to hear that she advocates for collaboration to build strategic partnerships, as opposed to transactional vendor relationships; in order to drive speed to market, GTM excellence and a competitive advantage.
