The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recently announced a six-figure fine against ESPN for a violation of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) rules. ESPN allegedly used the tones of the National Emergency Alert System in a commercial promoting the 2023-2024 NBA season, in violation of FCC rules. The FCC said that the unauthorized use of these sounds compromises the integrity of the EAS system. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission recently announced actions against five companies that used artificial intelligence in deceptive and unfair ways. Three of the cases involved businesses that made deceptive claims about generating passive income by opening e-commerce storefronts. The others involved companies claiming to provide automated legal services and automated product reviews.
