Today, Radicle is the only expert-driven research & insights platform that uses the experience, expertise, and perspectives of the companies and people transforming and disrupting your markets – startup and technology leaders actively building the future – to help you better understand and navigate them. Through both Custom Research and Exsight, our recently-launched self-service insights product, Radicle builds custom networks of these SMEs to help the world's leading companies and investors better: - understand the opportunities and implications of emerging technologies like generative AI, cloud computing, or web3 - evaluate new markets, adjacent markets, or the future of their markets - design and validate new products - answer critical questions and challenge their hypotheses - and ultimately increase the odds of successful decision-making All of this is powered by our Innovation Expert Network, a map of everyone who’s ever worked for a startup – millions of domain, company, business model experts. We use this Network to source experts that are not on traditional expert networks providing our customers with a unique source of insight and a competitive advantage. What is unique? 70-80% of the experts we source aren’t on traditional expert networks - they’re working. Which means the expertise that we source for our customers isn’t available anywhere else.     As you know, we recently launched Exsight, a new self-service expert insights platform powered by our Innovation Expert Network and millions of startup and technology leaders. I thought you might find this case study from one of our first projects interesting. The Challenge A leading global creative and design consultancy, needed to quickly connect with 5 direct-to-consumer experts with experience in eco-certification. They had a tight 7-day deadline to gather these insights, which were crucial for a client deliverable. Their own network and other expert networks were unable to deliver the specialized experts they required in time. ?? The Solution The consultancy turned to Exsight, an expert-led market research platform that connects customers with domain experts shaping the future. Exsight quickly ingested the consultancy's needs, identified and qualified 13 relevant experts from its unique network, and facilitated 5 expert calls within the tight timeline. Because of Exsight’s value-based pricing, we not only met the consultancy's budgetary expectations but also provided the services at 65% below their allocated budget, saving them thousands of dollars compared to other expert networks. ??     A subject matter expert can be a superpower. I've been obsessed with this idea for the last 5-6 years with Radicle and Exsight. Sometimes successfully ?? and sometimes less successfully ?? . But I can't shake it. We use subject matter experts in our lives all the time. Moving to San Fran? Talk to someone who's been there. Applying for a job at ABC Corp. Talk to an employee or former employee. And so on. When it comes to our jobs or businesses, we rarely do that. Even though there are millions of individuals with experience and expertise can help transform our perspectives. And for just a few hundred dollars. A hidden superpower.     "History Doesn't Repeat Itself, but It Often Rhymes." - Mark Twain If you want to understand the future and what will happen as new technologies emerge and platform shifts occur, you need to understand the past. You need to understand how people and markets responded to similar shocks. And here, Dan Shipper and Every Inc. have done it again! If you're interested in the future and the past, you need to check out The Crazy Ones, Gareth Edwards' new column focused on the history of Silicon Valley. Here, in the latest edition, is a fascinating profile of Lore Harp McGovern, uncovering her untold story - a pioneering woman who built a multi-million dollar microcomputer company out of her suburban home in the 1970s. This profile provides fascinating insights into the early days of Silicon Valley and the trailblazing entrepreneurs who helped shape the industry. Some nuggets: Lore Harp McGovern and her business partner Carole Ely overcame gender biases to become one of the only female founders to take a tech company public in the early computer era. Their innovative approach to sales, customer service, and empowering their entire workforce helped Vector Graphic stand out and achieve remarkable success. Despite their accomplishments, Harp McGovern and other pioneering women entrepreneurs were often diminished or erased from the historical narrative of Silicon Valley. This is a must-read that shines a light on an important but overlooked figure in tech history. Harp McGovern's story offers valuable lessons for today's founders on identifying market opportunities, building a strong company culture, and persevering against industry biases.     Ok, I'm obsessed. This is my third piece this week on marketplace take rates and commissions and their impact on the value for both sides of the marketplace. I first posted a link to Bill Gurley's seminal piece, "A Rake Too Far," where he discussed the delicate balance of platform pricing strategy and what that looked like in the expert network space.     In his classic and insightful article "A Rake Too Far," Bill Gurley discusses the delicate balance of platform pricing strategy. Inspired by his thoughts, I want to shed light on a similar issue in the expert network space. Many industry players, like GLG, often charge a substantial markup on expertise, sometimes as high as 3x the expert's rate. This not only burdens customers with inflated costs but also significantly impacts experts. They face lower demand due to high prices and receive a reduced rate, which can be as low as $300 per hour out of the $1,000 charged to the client. At Exsight we believe there's a better way. We've eliminated markups entirely, ensuring that our pricing is 50-75% lower than what you'll find elsewhere. This approach is not only fairer to our experts but also provides our customers with more accessible, cost-effective insights.
