Invest in local priorities. Radiate global change.

关于我们

Radical Flexibility Fund contributes to a new era of locally-led social change by investing in people and communities - supporting their rights and agency and amplifying their voices - in new ways by combining three elements: ● supporting communities to identify their own priorities and define their own impact; ● resourcing these priorities through a broad range of funding tools (community philanthropy, outcome funds, etc.) that are more flexible, more inclusive and more sustainable than grants; and, ● allocating resources in participatory ways with a focus on innovative technologies. The Fund works with stakeholders and clients to gather information about new financing approaches; uses that information to design and facilitate processes led by grassroots organizations to effectively resource work in their communities; and, generates locally-led knowledge, monitors and disseminates the learning and impact of these new approaches. By gathering together these transformative elements and changemakers from different parts of the funding system we will – eventually – create a new paradigm. Communities will have the authority to make their own choices and determine their own futures through increased ability to generate renewable resources. This will make them safer, more peaceful, more prosperous and healthier. The combination of these elements - and the interconnectivity they catalyze - makes this Fund radical.

Along with our colleagues at Innpactia, we are thrilled to welcome Jorge Antonio de la Hoz Ramirez to the Radical Flexibility Team! Based in Bogotá, Jorge will lead the development and structuring of the Migration Flexibility Fund, turning our vision of the first refugee-led impact investing fund in the world into a reality. We are excited to add Jorge's impressive skills to our team (more below!). At RFF we have now been working on innovative and equitable approaches to resourcing civil society for a number of years. The imperative to include new financing approaches as part of the solution to the current development and humanitarian crisis is clearer than ever. Part of this task is developing new mechanisms and models. An equal part is supporting "translators" who cross these often siloed professional spaces. We feel lucky to work with Jorge and to have the opportunity to continue to develop a new generation of leaders who understand social issues, equitable partnerships, and innovative resourcing strategies. Jorge brings almost 10 years of experience in impact investment, venture capital, and entrepreneurship across Latin America to leading the work of the Migration Flexibility Fund. Jorge’s expertise is in the creation of investment vehicles, acceleration strategies, and fundraising for startups and companies with social and environmental impact. He has led strategic alliances with funds, corporations, and universities, managing investment portfolios and facilitating a significant amount of capital investment for startups. He has worked with World Wildlife Fund Colombia on capital mobilization for sustainable businesses and is currently supporting organizations like UNDP to develop loan and investment pipelines and financing strategies for groups with limited access to capital. Jorge is a social entrepreneur himself having started several social ventures including co-founding Laudrive, a ride-sharing app for women in Mexico, where he led growth and retention strategies eventually building a community of over 8,000 female drivers. ?Jorge is an expert in agile methodologies and innovation ecosystem development as well as maintaining the positive attitude, energy and resilience required to drive forward new ideas. Originally from Mexico City, Jorge earned a BA from the Iberoamericana University. Congratulations and bienvenidos Jorge! ?? ?? ?? • It has been a balm to join Daniella Undreiner and the amazing network of Mexican community foundations that form Comunalia in Mexico City to talk about what role national and local community philanthropy can play in supporting refugees and those who find themselves in situations of displacement. In sharp contrast to the current US discourse, conversations filled with professionalism, deep humanity, and empathy for survivors of human rights abuses, and a commitment to uphold the related legal and moral frameworks, are happening. In capital cities and communities around the world people are thinking about how to act collectively, marshal national and local resources, and further their role as leaders amidst the current global chaos. One of the migrants with whom we spoke, a now long time resident of Mexico and the sole survivor in her family of the Guatemalan genocide, observed: “?Desde cuándo buscar refugio se convertío en un delito?” Since when did seeking refuge become a crime? Now more than ever we should turn our thinking to how create new pathways and mechanisms to resource and accompany the communities and organizations that continue to do the work of upholding rights and dignity. • “New power operates like a current, made by many, open, participatory and peer driven…like water and electricity, it is most forceful when it surges. The goal with new power is not to hoard it but to channel it.” ~Jeremy Heimans and Henry Timms The consequences of the incredibly damaging freeze on US foreign aid will be seismic and underscore the desperate need for new models of collective action. At RFF, we are heartened to be working in Oaxaca, Mexico this week with Collin Assistencía Migrante and the amazing Kristen Corning Bedford to explore how grassroots networks are generating community-to-community models of giving and accompaniment that enable us as individuals to ameliorate global challenges. The humanitarian situation in the world is already dire and it’s impossible to predict the implications of US policy on refugee flows. Organizations like Collin A.C, which started as a grassroots volunteer movement of Mexican and American community members in Oaxaca, illuminate what is possible when communities come together in shared humanity to solve problems ???? If you are in Oaxaca this week please join us for this program of events.

  • Radical Flexibility Fund is thrilled to be part of Impact Minds: Beyond Frontiers! Riva Kantowitz will be joining Gabriela Boyer, Hannah T?pler, and Sebastian Osorio next week in Oaxaca, Mexico for an exciting discussion about innovations in the humanitarian world. Are you ready to talk about new and sustainable ways of resourcing grassroots and migrant communities? Using AI to eliminate bias in hiring refugees? How governments can create and implement effective migration policies and support mechanisms? Yep, we are too! We are excited to think together about: **What innovations do we know can work to support the 117 million people in the world who are currently forcibly displaced? (UNHCR) **How do we leverage tools beyond grants and the continuum of capital - when to give a grant, give a loan, etc. - to support national efforts as well as those working at the grassroots/community level? **How do we move work in new approaches beyond the margins into the mainstream of the humanitarian and development sectors? If you are in Oaxaca next week and want to learn more about innovative ways to resource civil society please reach out, and if you can't join us next week in Mexico we'd still love to chat! • A few reflections…

    查看Riva Kantowitz的档案

“There are ways in, journeys to the center of life, through time; through air, matter, dream, and thought. The ways are not always mapped or charted, but sometimes being lost, if there is such a thing, is the most profound place to be. Always, in this search, a person might find that she is there, at the center of the world. It may be a broken world but it is glorious nonetheless.” - Linda Hogan It was an extraordinary honor to join these world changers in Nairobi last week. This is one of the most diverse groups I have ever been part of - artists, human rights champions, peacebuilders and policy experts - brought together as part of a visioning process to imagine our future if we continue on the current trajectory of war and backsliding on justice and rights or manage to pivot, creating the conditions for a just, safe and peaceful planet. Being with this group re-centered me on the reality that amazing humans continue to work towards transformation, to uphold rights and basic freedoms and a vision of harmony, in each of their countries every day. And they do it with a sense of urgency and commitment appropriate to the state of the globe. While I would say that this group felt a lot of solidarity with each other, I also would venture a guess that not a single one of them feels they have the resources to work at their full potential. Why? Why do we continue to mistrust what communities say they want, having months-long, belabored conversations with donors? These conversations are often about money in relatively small amounts that don’t actually represent big risks, especially when compared to those who take the real risks - sometimes to their lives - of doing work that is disruptive and challenges power? It feels that we are particularly lost in this era, far from a set of cherished norms valuing each life and the universal right to safely, dignity, and opportunity - to flourish. I came home with a renewed sense that our main job in the minority north is to get these individuals the partnerships and resources they need in ways that honor their work, sustain their spirit, and are straightforward, sustainable, and urgent. That is the work we will continue to try to do at Radical Flexibility Fund. Thank you to Conducive Space for Peace, NEAR (Network for Empowered Aid Response) and Reos Partners for the herculean and flawlessly executed task of bringing us together from all corners of the globe - and to each person pictured below for your perseverance and hope. #shiftthepower #locallyled #respace

We know the traditional funding framework for social change is no longer fit for purpose.?We've been a little quiet over here in Q1, thinking about how to move beyond frustrations and amplify new ideas. ? Despite resounding rhetoric and a range of pledges to more effectively resource community-led development international donors continue to fail to shift resources and power.?? ? What are ways to engage new sources of capital and catalyze new types of investments in localization??- How do we leverage innovative finance to support community-led social change and development work??- What is the future of resourcing civil society?? ? Radical Flexibility Fund in partnership with Humentum is exploring the development of a new course that addresses these questions.?Would you be interested in this course? If so, what information would you like to learn about (and what is repetitive and not as helpful?).?
