Public criticism tends to trigger a defensive reaction, making it much harder for someone to accept they’ve made a mistake and learn from it. On the other hand, public praise amplifies its impact, lending more weight to the recognition and encouraging others to emulate what was great. Think about your own experiences - how did you feel the last time you were praised in front of others? Now, compare that to how it felt being called out in a meeting or public forum. The difference is stark, isn’t it? As leaders, colleagues, or teammates, we have the power to create a culture where learning and growth are prioritized. Recognize that public criticism often shuts the door to constructive conversations, while public praise opens doors to greater engagement, collaboration, and shared success. So, the next time you want to give feedback, pause to think about the where and how of your message. Shift criticism to private settings where it can be more impactful and transformative, and make praise public to inspire and uplift your team. What’s one way you’ve seen public praise positively impact your team or workplace? Share your story below - we’d love to hear it! #RadicalCandor #LeadershipTips #WorkplaceCulture #ConstructiveFeedback #PublicPraise #TeamBuilding #FeedbackCulture #EffectiveLeadership

If you are not sure what constitutes an emotionally abusive relationship, here’s a simple definition: one person has power over another and uses that power to control or coerce the other to do things the person doesn’t want to do. #RadicalCandor #RadicalRespect
Studies have shown that power makes people likelier to think about sex, to be sexually attracted to those around them, and to demonstrate disinhibited sexual behavior and dominance more broadly. But it does not mean those feelings are reciprocated by the less powerful people around them.?Every promotion means you think you are sexier than the people around you think you are. Let that sink in. And back off. #radicalrespect #abuseofpower #radicalcandor #workplaceculture #cultureofconsent #metoo

Not every piece of information you get at work comes with a clear confidentiality label. When in doubt, ask. On the latest episode of the Radical Candor Podcast, Kim Scott recounted advice she received at Apple about categorizing information into three levels to avoid oversharing sensitive information: Category 1: Your responsibility; you decide. Category 2: Collaborative; input from others is required. Category 3: Someone else’s decision; stay out of it. “At Apple, there was a big Category 3,” Kim said, contrasting the more open environment at Google, where “there almost was no Category 3.” Understanding which category information belongs to can guide whether or not to share. ?? here (https://lnkd.in/gimmRGQA) or wherever you get your podcasts! #OversharingAtWork #BuildingTrust #RadicalCandor #FeedbackCulture, #PsychologicalSafety #podcast
