  • This year, REC proudly hosted an interactive theatre experience on advancing birth equity. Led by Dr. Sharla Smith, we explored the impact of stress, weathering, and allostatic load on health, and how social and environmental factors drive disparities. Through real-world scenarios, we developed actionable strategies to recognize and disrupt bias. Thank you to Dr. Smith, Darren Canady, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and all who joined us — we’re grateful for your partnership!

  • It’s Wellness Wednesday?????? There are so many resources in our community that work extremely hard to support and educate others on the importance of self care. Did you know that children from minority backgrounds experience higher levels of chronic stress due to poverty, discrimination, and family instability? 63% of Black and Hispanic children report experiencing racism, which has been linked to mental health issues (APA). The Walker Foundation is passionate about improving the quality of life of kids by providing them with the best hair solutions. They provide not only hair services, but training classes, hair workshops for kids, providing customized wigs for kids in need, the Healthy Hair program and so much more !! Check them out: https://buff.ly/wILLHpA Thank you so much for all you do for the community !!

  • We would like to give a warm welcome to The HALO Foundation, a KC nonprofit that helps thousands of homeless and at-risk children around the world. HALO opened its new Kansas City location that houses its HALO Boys Home, Girls Home, Learning Center, and Headquarters. This multi-phased project is located at I-435 South and Blue Parkway on 37 acres. The number of KC homeless children has almost doubled in the past 10 years. HALO works to put KC homeless youth (16-21) on a path to a positive future through housing, healing and education. HALO will offer a home and community to 20 homeless or at-risk youth in our community, and we are so grateful for the mission and vision to help one more child spend one less day alone! ?So, how can you play a part in this mission? Give: HALO is still needing items to make sure they are prepared to welcome new girls next week! Consider purchasing from their Amazon wishlist: https://buff.ly/4hFOiq4 Volunteer: Considering sharing your time with HALO by volunteering through their Learning Center or Homes! https://buff.ly/4i4MwP2 Spread the word: Please spread the word about HALO, and if you or anyone you know is in need of housing, please fill out an inquiry form: https://buff.ly/41pUP1h

  • Happy Black History Month! ?? This month, we would like to take a moment to highlight someone is who making a difference right here in our own community. Naomi Tolentino has done impactful work combating chronic absenteeism in Kansas City schools. Tolentino draws from her experiences as a teacher for immigrant students to build strong relationships that tackle attendance challenges. Tolentino’s efforts have led to measurable improvements, reducing absenteeism across the district. Her approach is a powerful example of leadership that prioritizes student well-being and equity. Naomi, thank you for all the hard work you're doing to see the lives of our youth improve! #REC #RacialEquity #Equity

Thank you to our inspiring speakers, Mark A. Dupree, Sr., Wyandotte County district attorney and Kansas Bar Association president, and Shanelle Dupree, Racial Equity Collaborative executive director, who joined us today to commemorate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., at our firm's annual celebration. The pair shared their stories of fighting social injustices and the impactful differences they have made.

  • Our Mission. Our Vision. Our Commitment. At Racial Equity Collaborative, we are committed to decreasing systemic racism and its lasting impact on communities of color. Through education, research, and collaborative programming, we work alongside individuals and organizations to create real change. Why does this matter? ?? Black and brown children enter foster care at twice the rate of their peers. ?? Once in the system, they face worse outcomes and experiences. ?? These disparities extend beyond child welfare—to healthcare, education, the legal system, and beyond. Change starts with all of us. That’s why we call on mandated reporters, policymakers, and community leaders to take action. Together, we can advance racial equity and build a future where families and communities thrive. Are you ready to be part of the change? Join us. ????

  • Celebrate Martin Luther King Day with us ?? A remarkable individual who dedicated his life to a mission that aligns closely with our goals here at REC! On this day, let's strive to do more than just rest or complete chores. Let’s honor a figure who played a pivotal role in advancing civil rights and promoting equality for all. We deeply appreciate the monumental strides he made toward fostering unity and justice, and we recognize that there is still significant progress to be made. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's efforts contributed to landmark legislation like the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which dismantled legal segregation and protected voting rights for marginalized communities. If you’re seeking a meaningful way to pay tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. today, or if you simply wish to broaden your understanding of his profound impact and enduring legacy, we encourage you to watch this insightful short video. Together, let's reflect on his teachings and continue to work tirelessly toward racial equity and justice for all ?? #REC #Equity #MLKDAY #RacialEquityCO https://buff.ly/4gXq0HN
