Earlier this month, RTP had the privilege of participating in the Geneva College Engineering Job Fair, represented by our very own Andrew Wilson, P.E., S.E. and Tyler Clayton, E.I.T.! Job fairs are a vital part of RTP's ongoing commitment to investing in the future of engineering. They give us a chance to meet up with the next wave of talented professionals, talk about the work we’re passionate about, and showcase the exciting career opportunities in our industry. It was especially meaningful for Andrew, who received his Bachelor’s degree at Geneva and whose father is a professor there! A huge thanks to Geneva College for hosting and to the students who stopped by. #EngineeringCareers #TalentDevelopment #JobFair #FutureEngineers #STEM #GenevaCollege #EngineeringJobs #HiringEngineers #Networking #CareerOpportunities

Across every project and industry we serve, safety is our priority from start to finish. As engineers, we understand that precision and care in our work have real-world implications for the safety of those who rely on our services. ⚙️ In industries like construction, manufacturing, and material handling, safety lapses can be costly. Did you know that U.S. companies face over $1 billion in direct costs annually due to workplace injuries? The engineering decisions we make today can help reduce that number by minimizing risks and implementing safeguards. In fact, studies show that companies investing in effective safety programs see a 20% reduction in incident rates. For nearly 70 years, RTP has focused on not only providing innovative engineering solutions but also integrating the highest safety standards into every aspect of our work. Our role as engineers isn't just about creating efficient systems—it’s about ensuring those systems protect everyone involved. At RTP, safety isn't a box to check—it’s part of our DNA! https://lnkd.in/e_UXyjq5 #SafetyFirst #EngineeringExcellence #WorkplaceSafety #Engineers #ProjectManagement #ConstructionSafety #HealthAndSafety #IndustrialSafety #SafetyCulture #PoweredByOurPeople #OSHA

Happy Ada Lovelace Day! 🌟 Ada Lovelace, widely considered as the FIRST computer programmer, was captivated by machines from an early age, even designing steam-powered flying machines during the Industrial Revolution. She went on to collaborate with Charles Babbage on The Analytical Engine, a precursor to the modern computer, and in 1842, she found fame when she expanded on an article by an Italian mathematician, highlighting the power of machines to manipulate symbols. Her legacy paved the way for future generations of women to break barriers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. At AEDES, and across all our sister companies, we proudly support and champion women in STEM. This day reminds us how essential diversity is to driving progress in our field and we are committed to fostering environments where women can thrive, lead, and make impactful contributions to projects that shape our world! #AdaLovelaceDay #WomenInSTEM #STEMEducation #STEM #ComputerProgramming #PoweredByOurPeople #DiversityInEngineering #FutureOfEnergy

Did you know the steel industry accounts for 8% of global CO2 emissions? But a new breakthrough might change that! Scientists have developed a process to produce green steel using toxic red mud—aka, waste from aluminum production. By using hydrogen plasma in an electric arc furnace, they can extract CO2-free iron from red mud, turning waste into valuable resources. This innovative process not only reduces carbon emissions but also addresses the growing demand for sustainable solutions in both steel and aluminum production. It could save up to 1.5 billion tonnes of CO2, making a significant impact on global emissions! At RTP, we keep a close eye on groundbreaking developments like this to support the future of sustainable energy and industrial practices. We're excited to see how this innovation shapes the steel industry in the years to come. 🏭 Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eA9F8igN #GreenSteel #SustainableManufacturing #SteelIndustry #Aluminum #CriticalInfrastructure #EngineeringAndDesign #Carbon #CleanEnergy #ElectricArcFurnace #EAF #Hydrogen

🧑🔧️ Did you know that nearly 70% of engineering interns receive full-time job offers after their internship? At RTP, we believe in the transformative power of internships—not just for the interns, but for the companies that host them! One of our latest blog posts dives into how engineering firms like ours leverage internships to drive innovation, recruit future leaders, and fulfill corporate social responsibility. Interns bring fresh perspectives and out-of-the-box thinking that can spark solutions to long-standing challenges. For us, internships aren't just a short-term engagement; they’re a long-term investment in talent, culture, and community. As our General Manager of Engineering, Larry Friedline, puts it, “Internships help the intern learn what we do at RTP and helps us learn about the intern and how they may best fit within our team.” Explore our blog post to see how companies that actively shape the intern experience fulfill their responsibility to the next generation while securing a competitive edge in the dynamic engineering landscape: https://lnkd.in/eZacdazz #EngineeringInternships #STEMCareers #InternshipExperience #FutureEngineers #TalentDevelopment #EngineeringLeadership #CorporateResponsibility #WorkforceDevelopment #EngineeringEducation

Earlier this year, a prominent steel manufacturer secured up to $575 million from the US Department of Energy to support two of their major decarbonization projects. Middletown Works, OH: - Funding: Up to $500 million - Upgrade: Replacing the blast furnace with a hydrogen-ready DRI plant and two 120 MW electric melting furnaces - Impact: Maintains annual production capacity at 2.72 million metric tons without using coke, significantly reducing carbon emissions Butler Works, PA: - Funding: Up to $75 million - Upgrade: Replacing two natural-gas fired high-temperature slab reheat furnaces with four electrified induction slab reheat furnaces - Impact: Reduces carbon emissions, cuts energy costs, and improves slab quality With an eye to the future, what could this mean for their emissions reduction goals? - The manufacturer has already reduced Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 25% compared to 2017 levels - New targets aim for a 30% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions intensity and a 20% reduction in Scope 3 emissions intensity per metric ton of crude steel by 2035 At RTP, we like to stay on top of industry updates like this to better serve our clients and adapt to the evolving landscape. We look forward to seeing how these advancements will shape the steel industry's future in the coming years! Did you know that #BearingWear is a leading cause of equipment failure, responsible for nearly 50% of all rotating machinery breakdowns? Let's take a look at a recent project where our team tackled the issue of premature bearing failures for a heavy industrial client, leading to remarkable improvements in equipment performance and reliability... ➡️ Client Challenge: The issue involved recurring premature bearing failures in OEM-supplied equipment. An initial improvement extended the Mean Time to Failure (MTTF) to 18 months, but the problem persisted. RTP's investigation identified two primary causes: oscillating motion causing lubricant voids and metal-to-metal contact, and inherent misalignment leading to axial binding. ➡️ Solutions Implemented: 1. Bearing Replacement: Utilized self-aligning spherical roller bearings 2. Spacer Redesigns: Implemented redesigned spacers for both idler and driven ends 3. Grease Seals and Housing Modifications: Incorporated grease seals on the motor side and modified housings for external lubrication 4. Auto-Lubrication Systems: Installed single-point auto-lube units for consistent lubrication 5. Optimized Lubricant: Switched to a lubricant formula suitable for oscillating motion ➡️ Results: 1. Significant gains in bearing life 2. Reduced maintenance costs 3. Extended production time without unplanned outages We're proud of our team for completing another successful project for a valued client. To learn more about the in's and out's of bearing wear investigations and RTP's project recap, check out our latest blog post! https://lnkd.in/e4z9fXc2 #Engineering #IndustrialMaintenance #MechanicalEngineering #BearingFailure #Manufacturing #IndustrialEngineering #ReliabilityEngineering #EquipmentMaintenance #EngineeringSolutions #MaintenanceManagement
