Safeguarding the financial freedom and retirement you have worked so hard for
关于我们
The older adults are often targets of scammers looking to take their hard earned money. In 2022 in the United States, the 60+ population reported losing over $3.1 billion to scammers. The Arizona 60+ population reported losses of over $82 million - this has doubled in just one year! We are an Arizona 501(c)(3) working to prevent the financial exploitation and defrauding of the older adults through advocacy and education. R.O.S.E. was founded to lead the effort in delivering effective and concise educational programs to the older adults (and their families) so that they will be aware of the types of scams that are prevalent and dangerous to this population and what they can do to avoid becoming a victim. R.O.S.E. seeks to create change by educating and providing awareness of financial scams that typically target the older/elderly population, with a focus on those ago 60 and over. We have seen a drastic increase in the number of victims over the age of 60 and monetary loss due to the financial scams and our goal is to reduce the number of victims and monetary loss.

Tip Tuesday: Check Washing Check washing fraud is when someone intercepts your check, uses chemicals to wash away the ink, and rewrites the check to their benefit. Sometimes they will leave your signature intact or they will fraudulently sign the check. Checks can be stolen, or the scammer will print fake copies of a check. Protect yourself by using a gel-ink pen to write your checks. The gel ink does not come off when chemicals are used to wash the check. To learn more helpful resources, schedule a presentation with R.O.S.E. today! Email [email protected] #checkwashing #fraud #protectyourself

??SCAM ALERT?? Have you received a text about unpaid tolls? It's probably a scam! To avoid a text scam like this: -Don’t click on any links in, or respond to, unexpected texts. Scammers want you to react quickly, but it’s best to stop and check it out. -Check to see if the text is legit. Reach out to the state’s tolling agency using a phone number or website you know is real — not the info from the text. -Report and delete unwanted text messages. Use your phone’s “report junk” option to report unwanted texts to your messaging app or forward them to 7726 (SPAM). Once you’ve checked it out and reported it, delete the text. Learn more about spotting and avoiding text scams at ftc.gov/textscams.

Looking for a job after you retire? You will want to check out the Task Scam - type of job where you think you are getting paid to do easy tasks online like product ratings but end up losing money instead. Here is what to look out for: 1. Unsolicited messages with job offers 2. Vague job descriptions like "ad optimization" or "product boosting" 3. Initial small payouts to gain your trust 4. Requests to complete tasks on unfamiliar platforms 5. Sudden requests for you to invest your own money 6. Promises of big returns for small investments 7. Pressure to use cryptocurrency for payment If you are looking to make some extra cash, do your research. Use your internet browser to search the job and put "fraud" or "scam" with it to see what results you get. The old adage "if it seems to good to be true, it usually is" still applies. Are you looking for insurance through the ACA (Affordable Care Act)? A supporter reached out to let us know about how he was scammed. He needed some insurance for a short period of time and decided to look at his options with the ACA. He found a company that seemed legit. He paid the first month's premium and when he received the bill for the second month's premium, he called because he had not received his insurance cards and things started to get weird, He also called his doctors to set up appointments and the doctor's offices had not heard of the company and was not contracted with the company. He did some online research and sure enough there was a lot of information about this fraudulent company. You can also go to ACA's verified website and look for recommended companies. Tip: When looking to do business with any company, do your research. One way is to put the name of the company in the online search bar along with "fraud" or "scam" and see what comes up. You would be surprised.
