After an incredible journey at RCK Partners over the last four years, it’s time for me to hand over the reins and focus on growing my U.S. business – R&K Partners. Building RCK alongside such a talented, passionate, and kind team has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Together, we’ve achieved milestones I’m immensely proud of in record time. It has been an absolute privilege to be part of this team, and I will cherish the memories forever. Thank you! To my fellow co-founders, team members, and partners – thank you for your collaboration, trust, and laughter along the way. It’s been an honor to create something so meaningful with all of you – truly. A special thank you to Peter Roscoe. It has been an incredible privilege to go on this journey with one of the most talented people I’ve ever met and one of my closest friends. Pete, I’m so grateful our paths crossed all those years ago - thank you! While I may be stepping back from RCK, I’ll always be cheering for its continued success and supporting the team from afar. Under the leadership of James Gibson as the new CEO, I have no doubt that RCK will continue to grow and thrive. As I shift my focus to the US, I’m thrilled to build on the momentum we’ve already created and to explore the limitless opportunities in this market. The latest report from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) sheds light on the ongoing efforts of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to tackle the backlog of tax returns and other critical account work, a legacy of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic. ?? Report Date: March 18, 2024 ?? Report Number: 2024-406-020 Here are the key points for businesses from the TIGTA report: Pandemic Response Challenges: During CY 2020, the IRS took unprecedented steps to safeguard public health, resulting in the closure of Tax Processing Centers and offices nationwide. Challenges persisted into CY 2021, including staffing shortages, the closure of the Fresno, California, Tax Processing Center, and capacity limitations due to social distancing requirements. Amended Business Returns and the Employee Retention Credit: The inventory of amended business tax returns, particularly those related to the Employee Retention Credit, has been significantly impacted. As of October 21, 2023, there were 870,170 Employee Retention Credit cases in inventory, constituting 59% of all business amended tax returns. In September 2023, the IRS Commissioner paused processing of these claims due to concerns of potential false or fraudulent filings. Ongoing Review: The TIGTA is conducting a separate review to evaluate the IRS's processes for identifying potentially false or fraudulent claims for the Employee Retention Credit on original and amended employment tax returns.
