When the triumvirate of Quona Capital team, our portfolio founders, and our LPs get together, it's a real treat. This February, (in partnership with DEG) we hit a new high at last week's India fintech trek where we hosted friends of Quona from 17 countries! It was also extra special to invite long time friends Subrata Mitra (whose career mirrors the coming of age of VC in India), V.R Govindarajan (whose is a pioneer of new age digital infra solutions in global south) and Deepak Shenoy (a capital markets "celebrity") to share their journeys with us. Day 1 was a deep dive into rise of India - economy, digitisation driven growth, Venture & Growth investments, Payments landscape, AI evolution, Regulatory evolutions, and the financial inclusion journey. Day 2 was an immersion into field visits to Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH) Turno NeoGrowth Credit Pvt. Ltd. and Rupifi. On the RBIH visit, Aakarsh Naidu and Vishes Jena ?? shared the Innovation Hub’s vision to democratise fintech and digital innovation for countrywide inclusion. We capped off Day 2 with a remarkable session with Siddharth Shetty (whose story mirrors the the evolution of #digitalpublicinfra) on the founding of the India stack & account aggregator, and the creation of Finternet anchored around the central themes of frictionless future and giving the control of data back to the user. Day 3 was a deep dive into financial innovation with businesses at the intersection of climate and finance, financial infrastructure, embedded finance, and building global businesses in emerging markets. It was an energizing week in lovely Bengaluru with the India Fintech Trek organised by Quona Capital. Thank you ganesh rengaswamy and the Quona team. It was an upclose experience with how Bengaluru which was a storehouse of tech talent has transformed itself at the forefront of Fintech revolution. - The india digital stack is getting stronger and the government is driving the creation of Digital Public infrastructure as driver of growth ( aadhar, UPI, Digital Locker, e KYC, account aggregator, ONDC etc and the new Unified Lending Interface (https://lnkd.in/gxdUft6D) - The endeavour of "frictionless finance for a Billion Indians" was seen in action during my visit to the RBI Innovation Hub. thank you Vishes Jena ?? for your time. The office itself looked like a startup and is focussed on bringing the ecosystem together to foster Fintech entreneurship. - India has now about 13000+ Fin techs with a whopping 214 of them with valuations greater than $100Mn and 28 unicorns. $23Bn of investments have poured in the value is estimated to be $500Bn - this is a combination of spirit of entreneurship, talent and forward looking role by the regulators and govt. - The capital market supports this space with many companies getting to IPO stage and unlocking exits or investments . It was so exciting to see how the digital economy is driving India's growth and creating opportunities. The run together at Cubbon Park was great fun too :)
