I've been meaning to share this news for a while. I'm thrilled to be working with an amazing team of Black women business owners to conduct a census of Black-owned businesses in Birmingham. The Birmingham Black Business Census has been over a year in the making, and we're honored to be carrying out the vision of leaders who are deeply committed to ensuring Birmingham's business environment is equitable and supportive for all. This project has pushed me out of my comfort zone – I appeared on television twice! But it's also been incredibly grounding and encouraging, providing support I didn't realize I'd need this past year. In speaking with other business owners, I've recognized how often we hesitate to put ourselves forward. I'm proud that we're giving people multiple opportunities to overcome that instinct and ensure their voices are heard by those who genuinely champion their stories. Continuing our reflection on our team's learning opportunities this year, Design Research Associate Katelyn Wilbanks Foote graduated with Class 6 from Momentum Leaders Upward program. Along with 63 other women from a range of industries in Birmingham, she invested in her personal and professional development over 9 months. We are grateful to have organizations like Momentum Leaders here in Birmingham committed to advancing women leaders!
Earlier this month I completed Momentum Leaders Upward Early Career program. For the last 9 months I've been meeting with an incredible group of women to explore our personal and professional development through topics like career planning, conflict resolution, bias and allyship, work life blend, wealth, and leadership. The connections I created through this program were one of the highlights - especially with my peer mentor group Annie Lovelady, Bethany Champion, Sydney Dandridge, and Carolyn Williams, MURP! I'm grateful that working at Quire Consulting gives me the space to invest in myself and my career and celebrates that. I'm also grateful to work with a strong and supportive female founder, Autumn Sanders, who joined me at our graduation celebration! We were given framed photos of our class which I keep on my desk to remind me of the value and impact of women supporting other women.

As our team reflects on this past year, we are grateful for the incredible learning opportunities 2024 has brought, like the Babson Black Women's Entrepreneurial Leadership Program Autumn Sanders completed with the Fall 2024 cohort. These opportunities bring new insights and tools but also meaningful connections with an incredible community of women!
? On Thursday night, we kicked off an incredible closing weekend for BWEL Cohort 6 with an inspirational opening reception which was kicked off by Babson College's President Stephen Spinelli and Chief Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Officer, Sadie Burton-Goss, Ph.D. !? Our special guest, Karen Slack, provided invaluable insights with the cohort, drawing from her unique experiences as a Black opera singer and Black women entrepreneur. She spoke candidly how using her gift of voice led her to discover and develop the many spokes of her other talents—offering our cohort invaluable advice on how to embrace their unique gifts in their entrepreneurial journeys. The Black Women Entrepreneurs Leadership (BWEL) program at Babson College is not just about business—it’s about community, data-driven strategies, and a support system that understands the unique challenges Black women entrepreneurs face. Since its inception in 2019, BWEL has been tackling barriers to growth like access to mentorship, capital, and entrepreneurial education. This year's cohort is a testament to that effort—collectively generating $6.7M in revenue, exceeding national averages for Black women entrepreneurs! We can't wait to see what the future holds for these incredible women and look forward to supporting their continued success.
