This post may make me lose favor with some of you, but this breaks my heart ?? One of my goals as a marketer in clinical research is to produce diverse and inclusive materials and strategies as often as I can... & while I don't participate in politics -at all- the recent Diversity & Inclusion changes in Texas are challenging something so near & dear to my heart. ?? My home has removed support for diversity & inclusion for education and government contracts. ?? My alma mater has defunded cultural groups, eliminated faculty and the use of language around diversity, & even renamed what was once our "Multicultural Center". ?? At least one of my friends' local businesses has been directly impacted by this roll back. The argument could be that the "best" should receive these contracts and support - I get it... but I have seen the challenges on our first generation population, our immigrants, and those who don't have the same access or ease in navigating "the way things work" and the systems in place. ?? Our state is 40% Latino, has vast education deserts, & is ranked 3rd nationally for number of international students & number of higher education institutions. ?? Many are required to overcome obstacles that the average multi-generation, white/Caucasian American citizen will never understand, and I fear that it will only set the precedent for other states to follow suit. So I bring this to y'all - What can I do to support? How can I help improve inclusion, diversity, and equity in a time where things feel like they're moving backward? #diversity #inclusion #equity #texas #DEI

Human rights commissions are essential to the human rights education ecosystem in Canada, engaging with research and providing programming that benefits and supports every person learning, earning, living, and growing on this land. Hear more from Dr. Dominique Clément (Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Alberta) and Jenna Robinson (PhD candidate), who spoke on Canadian human rights commissions' educational programming, including trends in funding for commissions and a review of educational materials. This presentation was part of the Ignite Change Global Convention, a 10-day commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It's good to see the APSC recognise the need for more First Nations people and racialised individuals in the SES levels of the public service. However for structural change to occur there will need to be more than targets. The APS will need to improve its racial literacy. Barriers like rejecting overseas experience, preventing languages other than English in the workplace, and resistance to other cultural and religious beliefs will have to be removed. The important point, which the APSC notes, is we all benefit from these types of changes. https://lnkd.in/gXYhmvKi
