Plus, during Women’s Leadership Month, they proudly highlighted their amazing percentage of women in leadership—a testament to their commitment to representation and empowerment. ?????????? ? Inside Quinn Evans We kicked off with an insightful presentation by Julia Siple, AIA, LEED AP , Principal, who shared Quinn Evans’ vision, projects, and inclusive company culture. The firm’s dedication to impactful, community-driven design was truly inspiring! ??? Spotlight on Projects & Careers The presentation continued with Byronaé Lewis, NCIDQ, a DCNOMA member and ARCH 30 recipient, alongside William Saffron and Anthony Harris AIA, LEED AP, CDT, who gave an inside look at their current projects and how their passions drive their work. The firm also shared details about exciting summer internship opportunities, encouraging students to explore careers at Quinn Evans. ??? Voices from the Team We were joined by Saakshi Terway and Daniela Tai, AIA, NOMA, LEED GA , who added valuable perspectives on their experiences at Quinn Evans, offering emerging professionals key insights into firm culture and career growth. ?? Office Tour & Networking After an inspiring session, we explored Quinn Evans’ space, followed by networking over refreshments, fruit, cookies, and beverages. It was an honor and joy to speak at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new "Albemarle Career Exploration Academy" alongside the elected officials and academic leaders that had the vision and foresight to plan and execute this transformational building. We navigated the post-pandemic academic landscape and engaged with students, parents, teachers, businesspeople and community leaders to ensure that the impact this Academy brings to Albemarle County will transcend its walls and be the beating heart of life-long learning for decades to come. The building is tracking USGBC LEED Gold Certification and follows The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Framework for Design Excellence. Features include geothermal heating/cooling, rooftop photovoltaic power generation, extensive biophilic and wellness design features, and material resource reduction strategies. It is with gratitude and appreciation for his decades of leadership contributions that Quinn Evans announces the retirement of Larry Barr, FAIA. Larry joined Quinn Evans in 1984 and went on to serve in project leadership roles for some of the firm’s most prominent and well-known work. He was part of firm leadership for 37 years, ultimately becoming Quinn Evans’ president from 2011-2022—a period of extraordinary growth in the firm’s size and profile. Since the devastating fire, much of the building was lost, but we have remained committed to its restoration and honoring its legacy while integrating 21st-century learning environments for future generations. Join KPF Senior Associate Principal Andrew Werner, AIA on Wednesday, March 26, where he will discuss One Madison Avenue in a webinar about adaptive reuse projects organized by Architectural Record. Driven by both economic and environmental considerations, adaptive reuse projects have been growing in popularity across the United States and have made up a majority of architects’ billings in recent years, according to research from the AIA. Andrew’s work on One Madison Avenue in New York City was recently featured in Architectural Record, which lauded the project as an adaptive reuse “success story.” The project navigated a multitude of complex constraints to preserve and modernize an out-of-date office building while adding density in the form of a new glass tower that rises gracefully above the existing podium. Andrew will present alongside Frano Violich, FAIA of Kennedy & Violich Architecture and Angela Wyrembelski, AIA of Quinn Evans. The speakers will discuss their respective methodologies and highlight specific case studies, including Michigan Central Station in Detroit and the Honnen Arts Club in Colorado Springs, and the economic contexts that shaped each project.
