We are excited to share that QCH Executive Director Ben Thomases was featured in City and State NY’s 2025 Queens Power 100 list, highlighting the leaders of NYC’s most diverse borough! ?? Feature from City & State: “Queens Community House is one of Queens’ largest nonprofits, with 40 sites boroughwide. Ben Thomases has led the organization since February 2015, and he’s not content to rest on his laurels. He recently completed a $16 million renovation on the Forest Hills Community Center. Thomases was co-chair of Queens Power, which advocated for the Creedmoor Psychiatric Center campus to be used for affordable housing, which the state has included in a new master plan for the facility. As a leader of the #JustPay movement, Thomases helped to obtain three years of cost-of-living raises for human services workers.” Congrats to everyone who made this year’s Queens Power 100! https://lnkd.in/dRTHwR_h #queensny #nyc #cityandstate #nonprofit #advocacy #affordablehousing #queensleaders

This morning we joined so many NYC advocates at the steps of City Hall rallying for education funding! ?? Learning to Work is a vital program that helps young people graduate from high school and connects them to jobs and further education. NYC needs LTW to ensure no young person falls through the cracks! #SaveLTW #queensny #nyc #nonprofit #education #diploma #highschool #learningtowork

?? HAPPENING NOW: 300+ nonprofit human services workers are in Albany for the Human Services State Advocacy Day to demand a 7.8% investment on ALL human services contracts. Cost-of-living keeps climbing, and State contracts must keep up. A 7.8% investment is what human services nonprofits need to help cover program costs and higher wages for workers who strengthen our communities everyday. Rising costs have pushed nonprofits to the brink. We can’t wait for 7.8! #FundHumanServices #JustPay Human Services Council of New York

Happy #InternationalWomensDay! ?? Today we highlight our Access For Young Women (AFYW) program! For 25 years, AFYW has been providing valuable leadership opportunities to young women ages 12-18. The program has demonstrated proven results in increasing girls’ self-esteem, academic performance, leadership skills, and knowledge of gender issues. ? AFYW provides an intensive 30-week leadership development curriculum that includes training in public speaking, problem solving, goal setting, and critical thinking. The young women also address important issues affecting their lives such as body image, identity, global issues, relationships, and social media. The program culminates with an Annual Youth Leadership Conference organized and facilitated by the young women to educate their peers and spread awareness on issues of importance to them. Go, AFYW! This past week, our Access for Young Women (AFYW) participants had the opportunity to attend the second annual Career Development Day at Goldman Sachs. The event featured insightful panels led by women from various departments, a lunch and networking session, and a tour of the trading floor. This educational field trip was designed to give our young women a deeper understanding of the finance industry and its many opportunities. We are grateful to the Goldman Sachs team for their generous hospitality, and we look forward to the possibility of seeing some of our participants join the firm in the future! Thank you Vanessa Resnick, Caitlin Belt, and Chelsea Quayenortey for helping put together this event. If you're interested in partnering with QCH to make a lasting impact on Queens neighbors, email Tamanna Saidi, our Director of Corporate Partnerships, at [email protected].

Nonprofit human services workers dedicate their lives to caring for our communities, but Governor Hochul didn’t show us love in her recent budget proposal. ?? Instead of including a full 7.8% investment in human services, she proposed a 2.1% “inflation adjustment”—not nearly enough to fund programs or pay human services workers livable wages. Today, join in emailing your State legislators and tell them that we are sick and tired of this one-sided relationship. We know our worth, and we need them to fight for us in the next budget! ?? New York City needs a bold shift in how we plan for the future. For too long, land use and planning decisions have been made in an ad-hoc, reactive, developer-centric manner—deepening racial, economic, and environmental inequities. That’s why members of the Thriving Communities Coalition (TCC), are testifying at the Office of Mayor-Elect Eric Adams Charter Commission hearing today to urge the Commission to mandate comprehensive planning and make Fair Housing goals enforceable. ?? Equity-centered development – ensuring ALL neighborhoods receive needed investment ?? Community-driven planning – empowering each of NYC’s 59 Community Districts ?? Accountable budgeting – aligning capital spending with housing & infrastructure needs ?? Environmental justice – expanding open spaces and combating climate inequities We also urge the Commission to amend the Charter to enforce Fair Housing targets, so every neighborhood does its part in addressing NYC’s housing crisis. A thriving NYC is possible—but only if we plan for it. Let’s move away from a broken, reactive system and toward a future where every New Yorker can afford to live, work, and grow. ?? If you believe in a just, sustainable NYC, let’s connect! Share your thoughts in the comments. #OurNeighborhoodsOurPlan #ComprehensivePlanning #FairHousing #NYCCharterReform #UrbanPolicy #AffordableHousing
