? Shaping the Future of Healthcare Data? ? Ever wondered how data quality can transform healthcare? ? It was an honor to present alongside my colleague Kristina Weish?upl at a recent research lounge, where we shared insights from the QUANTUM project. This initiative is a vital part of the European Health Data Space (EHDS), focusing on the development of a Data Quality and Utility Label. ? Our work addresses one of the most pressing questions in healthcare: ?? How can we evaluate and improve data quality and utility to ensure reliable secondary use? In our talk, we explored the challenges of defining data quality and utility across its multiple dimensions. ? Take completeness, for example: Everyone has a general idea of what it means for data to be "complete," but it's actually more complex and can be broken into several dimensions: Completeness: Completeness refers to the degree to which all required information is present in a particular dataset. Capture completeness: Capture completeness refers to the degree to which potential cases have been recorded. Data completeness: Data completeness refers to the degree of data attributes being present in a dataset without reference to specific data values. ? As Lighterness et al. highlight: "Despite widespread awareness of the prevalence and potential impacts of poor data quality, best practices for its assessment and improvement are unknown." ? By tackling these gaps, QUANTUM aims to bring greater transparency and trust to healthcare data, unlocking its full potential for research, innovation, and patient care. ?
